Parfumeur | Paul Guerlain
005 Riviera Absolue by Bon Parfumeur is a niche citrus, aromatic and woody perfume extract, unisex, created by perfumer Paul Guerlain. The ingredient at the heart of the composition is finger lime.
A house born from a collector, where fragrances are layered
Bon Parfumeur is a Parisian house founded in 2017 by Ludovic Bonneton, a passionate collector who became artistic director. The project was born from two things: his return from Colombia, where he lived surrounded by the scents of cocoa, coffee and tropical flowers, and his meeting with the great perfumer Raymond Chaillan, who showed him that perfume could be described through the five senses rather than through words. Its distinctive feature: fragrances designated by numbers, designed from the outset to be mixed and layered — the Mix & Match principle, which allows everyone to create their own accord. Each reference is entrusted to a different perfumer and is born from a precise image that Bonneton brings to the studio: a painting, a place, a memory. Everything is made in France. The extracts are recognizable by their gold cap, the eau de parfums by their black cap.
An opening of tomato leaf, finger lime and bergamot
The tomato leaf opens green, crisp and herbaceous, immediately pierced by the finger lime accord — bright, tart, almost electric. The Italian bergamot essence expands the whole. A spark of freshness, without any roundness.
A heart of neroli, ginger and cardamom
The Moroccan neroli essence brings the sun, the fresh ginger essence a spicy liveliness that naturally extends the momentum of the opening, and the Guatemalan cardamom essence its icy freshness. An explosion of Mediterranean energy.
A base of black tea, cypriol, olibanum and Ambroxan
The black tea brings its tannic dryness, the Indian cypriol essence its smoky earth, the olibanum resinoid its resinous smoke. The Ambroxan ensures exceptional longevity for a citrus.
The house's signature
A citrus fragrance designed to last. Citrus fruits are the most volatile ingredients in perfumery: they evaporate in a few minutes. Here, the house takes the opposite approach by building under the lime a base of resins and woods — olibanum, cypriol, black tea, Ambroxan — and by making it a perfume extract. The starting point is a memory of Ludovic Bonneton: "On the Amalfi Coast, a finger lime cocktail left me with a jolt of electric freshness. It is this shot of adrenaline that I captured in 005 Riviera Absolue." The perfumer, Paul Guerlain, explains his method: "I sought to capture the sensation of a breeze on skin warmed by the summer sun by working with finger lime, which I combined with slightly spicy ginger and green, crisp tomato leaf." The finger lime is an Australian citrus whose pulp is made of juicy micro-pearls — hence its name — much more precise and intense than a classic lime.
For whom, for what occasions?
Citrus, aromatic and woody, this perfume extract is for those who love citrus but usually find it too fleeting. It gives its best from spring to summer, from morning to evening, worn equally well by women and men.
With 005 Riviera Absolue Bon Parfumeur, Paul Guerlain bottles a convertible ride along the coastal road.
