Parfumeur | Michel Almairac
2015 Le Phénix by Les Bains Guerbois is a woody, spicy, and ambery unisex eau de parfum, created by Michel Almairac. The year the venue was reborn, with a base of incense on earth.
A single address, one hundred and forty years of history
It all began at 7 rue du Bourg-l'Abbé in Paris. In 1885, Auguste Guerbois opened the capital's most luxurious private bath, which was immediately frequented by Manet, Monet, Renoir, Zola, and Proust. In 1978, the venue became Les Bains Douches, the Parisian equivalent of Studio 54. In 2015, Jean-Pierre Marois, a film producer and heir to the venue, transformed it into a five-star hotel, then revived the perfume house in 2016. The catalog follows two lines: "A Date, a Story" (2018), where each fragrance corresponds to a specific year in the venue's history, and "Forms & Materials" (2022), which explores the building itself. The compositions are signed by master perfumers: Dorothée Piot, Michel Almairac, Bertrand Duchaufour, Dominique Ropion, Jérôme Épinette, Fanny Bal, Mathieu Nardin.
An opening of ginger and cardamom
Ginger opens with its warm spiciness, while cardamom brings its camphoraceous and lemony freshness. Two spices, and nothing else: no citrus or flowers to soften the opening.
A heart of cedar and papyrus
Cedar establishes the dry wood, while papyrus—the coptis root—brings its cold smoke and the scent of old paper. The heart is entirely mineral and vegetal.
A base of incense, patchouli, and amber
Incense brings the burnt resin, patchouli the damp earth, and amber the balsamic warmth. Smoke and soil: literally ashes.
The house's signature
Incense and earth in the base, and no flowers in the entire formula. 2015 was the year the address was reborn as a five-star hotel after years of abandonment—and the composition takes the idea literally: what remains of an empty building is the cold smoke and the floor, and that is exactly how the fragrance ends. It is also the house's only creation without a single floral note.
For whom, for what occasions?
Woody, spicy, and ambery, this eau de parfum is for those who love incense and dry woods, and are looking for a fragrance without any floral compromise. From autumn to winter, for evening wear. It is the most mineral fragrance in the catalog.
With 2015 Le Phénix Les Bains Guerbois, a name signifying rebirth ends in ashes.
