Parfumeur | Anne Flipo
304 Ombre Pourpre by Bon Parfumeur is a niche eau de parfum that is spicy, woody, and powdery, designed by master perfumer Anne Flipo for both men and women. This fragrance was previously called 304 Cumin - Almond Blossom - Cedar.
A house where the number indicates the fragrance family
Bon Parfumeur is a Parisian house founded in 2017 by Ludovic Bonneton, a passionate collector who became its artistic director. The project was born from two things: his return from Colombia, where he lived surrounded by the scents of cocoa, coffee, and tropical flowers, and his meeting with the renowned perfumer Raymond Chaillan, who showed him that perfume could be described through the five senses rather than through words. Its distinctive feature is its numbering system, which is far from arbitrary: the first digit indicates the fragrance family, while the following two indicate the fragrance's position within that family. The creations are designed from the outset to be mixed and layered—the Mix & Match principle. Each fragrance is entrusted to a different perfumer and is inspired by a specific image brought to the studio by Bonneton. Everything is made in France.
An opening of bergamot, ginger, and black pepper
Bergamot essence provides a zesty opening, ginger absolute brings its spicy freshness, and black pepper essence adds its bite. The house describes the opening as electric.
A heart of cumin, geranium, and heliotrope accord
Cumin essence arrives with full intensity—spicy, smooth, and distinctly damp. Geranium essence balances it with its rosy-green freshness, while the powdery, almond-like heliotrope accord soothes and calms the tension.
A base of Virginian cedar and vetiver
Virginian cedar essence brings its dry, noble woodiness—the house makes it the fragrance's guiding thread—and vetiver essence adds its earthy root. Only two ingredients, for a dry, long-lasting finish.
The house's signature touch
An unapologetic overdose of cumin. Cumin is the spice that fine perfumery tends to avoid: when worn close to the skin, it evokes skin and perspiration. That is exactly why it was chosen. Anne Flipo explains: "Ludovic and I were thinking about a fragrance that would create a sense of surprise within a comfort zone. The cumin hook is the surprise—that fresh, spicy side that contrasts with the smooth, noble block of almond blossom and cedar." Bonneton summarizes the intention: a contrast rarely seen in perfumery, where boldness and warmth meet restraint. The original image is a weekend in Marrakech, in a shaded room in the courtyard of a riad—the sound of water, the scent of spices. Anne Flipo is a master perfumer at IFF and received the Fragrance Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023; she creates fragrances for Lancôme, Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy, and Frédéric Malle.
For whom and for what occasions?
Spicy, woody, and powdery, this eau de parfum is for those seeking a distinctive, slightly unsettling fragrance, far removed from conventional spices. It is at its best from autumn through winter and in the evening, and can be worn by both women and men.
With 304 Ombre Pourpre Bon Parfumeur, Anne Flipo creates the house's most daring fragrance.
