402 Guilty Vanilla by Bon Parfumeur is a gourmand, vanilla and powdery unisex niche eau de parfum, created by perfumer Corinne Cachen. This fragrance was previously called 402 Vanilla - Caramel - Sandalwood.
A house where the number indicates the olfactory family
Bon Parfumeur is a Parisian house founded in 2017 by Ludovic Bonneton, a passionate collector who became artistic director. The project was born from two things: his return from Colombia, where he lived surrounded by the scents of cocoa, coffee and tropical flowers, and his meeting with the great perfumer Raymond Chaillan, who showed him that perfume could be described through the five senses rather than through words. Its distinctive feature is its numbering system, which is far from arbitrary: the first digit indicates the olfactory family, while the next two indicate the fragrance's position within that family. The creations are designed from the outset to be mixed and layered — the Mix & Match principle. Each fragrance is entrusted to a different perfumer and is inspired by a precise image brought to the studio by Bonneton. Everything is made in France.
An opening of almond blossom, icing sugar and almond
Almond blossom opens with a floral and powdery note, icing sugar adds its gourmand powderiness, and almond brings its milky sweetness. Three powdery notes all at once: the opening already smells like a dessert.
A heart of vanilla, caramel and jasmine
The round and addictive vanilla settles in, caramel adds a cooked gourmand sweetness, and jasmine opens up a fruity whiteness that prevents it from becoming cloying. It is like a crème brûlée drizzled with caramel.
A base of musk, benzoin and sandalwood
Musk brings its cottony sweetness, benzoin its vanilla-like and slightly fruity resin, and sandalwood its creamy woodiness. The trail is powdery rather than sticky.
The house's signature touch
Icing sugar in the top notes. This is the detail that defines this fragrance: perfumery usually opens with citrus or spices — here, the three top notes are powdery: almond blossom, icing sugar and almond. The dessert does not arrive at the end; it is there from the very first second, and the house embraces the word: an overdose of sweetness. Corinne Cachen describes her intention: "A fragrance with powdery and frosted nuances, where vanilla develops into a childlike sweetness." As for its origin, Bonneton tells it without fanfare: "A snack, and the fragrance came to me. Sometimes inspirations are as simple as they are fleeting." The location, however, is precise: the Place des Vosges in Paris.
For whom, and for what occasions?
Gourmand, vanilla and powdery, this eau de parfum is for those who love dessert-like vanillas but want them powdery rather than sticky. It is at its best from autumn to winter, by day as well as by night, and can be worn by both women and men.
With 402 Guilty Vanilla Bon Parfumeur, Corinne Cachen captures a snack at the Place des Vosges in a bottle.
