Parfumeur | Quentin Bisch & Amélie Jacquin
403 Myrrh Shadow by Bon Parfumeur is a spicy, woody, and amber niche extrait de parfum, unisex, created by Quentin Bisch and Amélie Jacquin, both perfumers at Givaudan.
A house where the number indicates the olfactory family
Bon Parfumeur is a Parisian house founded in 2017 by Ludovic Bonneton, a passionate collector who became artistic director. The project was born from two things: his return from Colombia, where he lived surrounded by the scents of cocoa, coffee, and tropical flowers, and his meeting with the great perfumer Raymond Chaillan, who showed him that perfume could be described through the five senses rather than through words. Its distinctive feature is its numbering system, which is far from arbitrary: the first digit indicates the olfactory family, while the following two indicate the perfume's rank within that family. The creations are designed from the outset to be mixed and layered — the Mix & Match principle. Everything is made in France. The extracts are distinguished by their gold cap.
An opening of bitter orange, grapefruit, and blackcurrant bud
Bitter orange essence and grapefruit open with radiant brightness, while blackcurrant bud absolute adds its tart, slightly animalic greenness. A sunny opening, unexpected above an amber base.
A heart of basil, cinnamon, Timut pepper, and cypress
Basil brings its aromatic herbal quality, cinnamon bark a powdery warmth, Timut pepper its grapefruit facets — it is grown in Nepal and naturally smells of citrus — and cypress its green resin.
A base of myrrh, benzoin, akigalawood, and vanilla
African myrrh and Laotian benzoin establish the resins, while vanilla softens them. Atlas cedar, patchouli heart, and akigalawood give the fragrance its texture and sillage. The extract is 70% concentration and lasts a very long time.
The house's signature
An ancient tale carried by a laboratory molecule. The fragrance is inspired by the tales of One Thousand and One Nights and the magic of childhood — but its base rests on akigalawood, a material obtained through biotechnology by applying an enzyme to patchouli essence. It is Quentin Bisch's signature molecule, known for its exceptional diffusion. The two perfumers summarize their intention: to rewrite a modern amber with beautiful textured woods, vibrant spices, and deep resins. And the house adds the key: to combine dreams and modernity was the guiding thread. Presented in preview at the Esxence show in Milan, where the stand was never empty — "the Quentin Bisch effect," Bonneton commented.
