501 Praline Royale by Bon Parfumeur is a gourmand, vanilla and powdery niche eau de parfum, unisex, created by perfumer Philippe Romano. This fragrance was previously called 501 Praline - Licorice - Patchouli.
A house where the number indicates the olfactory family
Bon Parfumeur is a Parisian house founded in 2017 by Ludovic Bonneton, a passionate collector who became artistic director. The project was born from two things: his return from Colombia, where he lived surrounded by the scents of cocoa, coffee and tropical flowers, and his meeting with the great perfumer Raymond Chaillan, who showed him that perfume could be described through the five senses rather than through words. Its distinctive feature is its numbering system, which is far from arbitrary: the first digit indicates the olfactory family, while the following two indicate the fragrance's position within that family. The creations are designed from the outset to be mixed and layered — the Mix & Match principle. Each fragrance is entrusted to a different perfumer and is born from a precise image brought to the studio by Bonneton. Everything is made in France.
An opening of hazelnut, bergamot and yuzu
Hazelnut opens with a green, woody and roasted note — the beginning of a baking process. Bergamot brings its sparkling Earl Grey note and yuzu its lemony acidity, which prevent the sweetness from becoming too overpowering too quickly.
A heart of praline, licorice and iris
Praline arrives at the center — burnt sugar, almond, hazelnut — with anise-scented, syrupy licorice. And iris, powdery, violet and woody, envelops it all in a cool veil.
A base of caramel, patchouli, amber and cashmere wood
Caramel extends the gourmand sweetness, patchouli brings its damp undergrowth note, amber its smooth roundness, and cashmere wood and musk the soft, cottony setting in which everything settles.
The house's signature touch
Iris at the heart of a gourmand fragrance. This is the choice that sets this fragrance apart from all the pralines on the market: iris — the most expensive ingredient in perfumery, cool and powdery — is placed at the heart, exactly where the sweetness could become cloying. Bonneton describes the original image: "I had the image of a crunchy praline unfolding at the heart of a powdery iris enveloped in cashmere, awakening eager childhood memories." The perfumer, for his part, summarizes the brief in one sentence: ""May the eyes of one and everyone else sparkle," Ludovic told me." The official image is that of children's eyes fixed on the oven — the anticipation, not the tasting.
For whom, and for what occasions?
Gourmand, vanilla and powdery, this eau de parfum is for those who love gourmand fragrances but want them elegant rather than sweet. It gives its best from autumn to winter, by day as well as by night, and is equally suitable for women and men.
With 501 Praline Royale Bon Parfumeur, Philippe Romano captures the anticipation of waiting in front of an oven.
