Parfumeur | Clément Marx
502 Iris Cartagena Limited Edition by Bon Parfumeur is a woody, gourmand, aromatic niche eau de parfum, unisex, created by Clément Marx — the perfumer of the Extrait, who here revisits his own formula.
A house where the number indicates the olfactory family
Bon Parfumeur is a Parisian house founded in 2017 by Ludovic Bonneton, a passionate collector who became artistic director. The project was born from two things: his return from Colombia, where he lived surrounded by the scents of cocoa, coffee, and tropical flowers, and his meeting with the great perfumer Raymond Chaillan, who showed him that perfume could be described through the five senses rather than through words. Its distinctive feature is its numbering system, which is far from arbitrary: the first digit indicates the olfactory family, while the following two indicate the perfume's rank within that family. The creations are designed from the outset to be mixed and layered — the Mix & Match principle. Everything is made in France. Useful tip in-store: the gold cap indicates the Extrait, while the black cap indicates the eau de parfum. This limited edition has a black cap.
An opening of rum extract, cocoa infusion, and mandarin
Rum extract and cocoa infusion open up lighter than in the Extrait, while mandarin essence and mandarin leaf essence bring a clear citrus freshness. The same setting, but in the morning light.
A heart of iris butter, Indian sandalwood, vanilla, and eucalyptus
Iris butter retains the cool powderiness that is the signature of 502, while Indian sandalwood essence and vanilla provide softness — and eucalyptus essence aerates the whole with an aromatic breath. This is the note that does not exist in the Extrait.
A base of papyrus, vetiver, coffee, and upcycled cocoa butter
Indian papyrus essence and Java vetiver essence provide the woody foundation, coffee absolute brings its roasted depth, and upcycled cocoa butter closes the composition with a rich sweetness.
The house's signature touch
The Extrait tells the story of the night; this edition tells the story of early morning. It is the same perfumer revisiting his own work, and he explains precisely what he changed: "I sought to give Extrait 502 a breath of fresh air by working with the existing ingredients. Mandarin leaf is adorned with mandarin for a citrus freshness, cocoa finds a lighter radiance in the cocoa infusion at the top, and eucalyptus refreshes the whole with an aromatic breath." Three adjustments, not a reformulation. Bonneton, for his part, continues the story of that first dinner in Cartagena: "At dawn, hand in hand, the world seemed to be reinventing itself, as if every breath of wind carried with it a forgotten secret, a scent of renewal." Note: the cocoa butter is upcycled, made from repurposed material.
For whom, and for what occasions?
Woody, gourmand, and aromatic, this eau de parfum is for those who love 502 but want something lighter, suitable for daytime wear. It can be worn all year round by both women and men.
With 502 Iris Cartagena Limited Edition, Clément Marx extends a suspended moment until dawn.
