Parfumeur | Harry Sherwood
A Night in Marrakesh by Memoirs of a Perfume Collector is a woody, spicy, amber perfume extract, unisex, created by Harry Sherwood. Nineteen ingredients, the house's richest composition.
A fragrance, a place in the world
Memoirs of a Perfume Collector is a London-based haute parfumerie house that defines itself in a single sentence: “High Perfumery from London, crafted through memory, places and emotion.” Its extracts are inspired by places, memories, and emotions, and each tells a story. The catalogue is organized into series: the Midnight City Series, which captures the world's great cities at midnight, and the Ocean Series, which gives a fragrance to each of the oceans—Indian, Pacific, Atlantic.
An opening of Moroccan bergamot, almond, and cardamom
Moroccan bergamot opens—named for its origin. Almond brings a milky sweetness, cardamom its camphoraceous sparkle, and vetiver, a rare thing at the top, its dry earth.
A heart of coffee, blonde tobacco, and Moroccan rose
Coffee and blonde tobacco establish bitterness and dryness. The Moroccan rose—also named for its origin—brings the flower, surrounded by olibanum, cedarwood, ginger, cinnamon, and saffron. Eight ingredients in the heart alone.
A base of Cambodian oud, honey, and castoreum
Cambodian oud, amber, sandalwood, nagarmotha, and patchouli form a dense woody foundation. Honey softens it, and castoreum—an animalic ingredient—gives it its night.
The house's signature touch
Nineteen ingredients: it is the house's richest composition. Three of them are named for their origin rather than by their name alone—Moroccan bergamot, Moroccan rose, Cambodian oud—which anchors the composition in the place announced by the title. But the signature touch lies in a single ingredient: the castoreum placed in the base. Without this animalic note, the fragrance would be just another spicy woody scent; with it, it becomes a night.
For whom, for what occasions?
For those who love spicy woody fragrances and abundant compositions. From autumn to winter, preferably in the evening. A Night in Marrakesh by Memoirs of a Perfume Collector is the richest of the house.
