Joorie by Kajal is a spicy, oriental, woody unisex eau de parfum. Three warm spices arrive before the citrus, which is the reverse of the usual.
Kohl, modesty, and two men from the world of luxury
Kajal Perfumes Paris was founded in 2012 by Moe Khalaf and Ibrahim Faris, and its first fragrance was released in 2014. Both come from the world of luxury: Ibrahim Faris started at nineteen in Jordan before becoming brand manager of the Al Tayer Group in Dubai; Moe Khalaf spent ten years at YSL Beauté, eventually heading the Saudi market, and later served as Middle East Regional Director at Estée Lauder. The name says it all: kajal refers to kohl in Indian culture and comes from the Arabic khajal, modesty. The house is based in Dubai, but its fragrances are mainly composed in France. Joorie belongs to the WARDÈ collection, the rose in Arabic.
An opening of nutmeg, cloves, and ginger
Nutmeg, cloves, and ginger open the composition: three warm, bold spices with no transition. Bergamot, lemon, and pepper only arrive afterward—the citrus is placed after the spices, not before.
A heart of rose and ylang-ylang
Rose holds the heart, as the collection intends. Ylang-ylang gives it a sun-drenched, slightly banana-like body, while orange blossom adds honeyed clarity. Three flowers against six spices: the contrast is striking.
A base of oud, honey, and sandalwood
The oud accord and sandalwood establish the oriental base, honey adds waxy sweetness, and patchouli and cedar provide earthiness and woodiness. Tonka bean, vanilla, and musk complete a long-lasting base of eight ingredients.
The house's signature touch
The spices come before the citrus. Classic construction has a fragrance open on its most volatile ingredients—lemon, bergamot—then introduces the spices in the heart. Here, nutmeg, cloves, and ginger arrive from the very beginning, and the citrus serves as a brightening element behind them. The fragrance is therefore warm from the very first second and never has a fresh phase.
For whom, and for what occasions?
Spicy, oriental, and woody, this eau de parfum is for those who love spicy oriental fragrances and warm roses and do not need a reassuring opening. From autumn to winter, for evening wear. It is the spiciest fragrance in the catalog.
With Joorie Kajal, the citrus serves as a brightening element instead of opening.
