A house that makes its own materials

Les Indémodables was born in 2016 from the meeting of Valérie and Rémi Pulvérail. She was a beauty retailer and wanted to offer her customers an olfactory wardrobe; he spent twenty years sourcing ingredients at Givaudan before founding his own laboratory, L'Atelier Français des Matières. That is where it all happens: the house does not order its raw materials, it extracts them itself. Some of its extracts are exclusive and cannot be found elsewhere — therefore impossible to copy. Antoine Lie is the creative director, alongside Florence Fouillet Dubois. And a rare thing: each bottle indicates the percentage of expensive naturals contained in the formula. The eaux de parfum are dosed at 20%, the Extraits Absolus at 40%.

An opening of clary sage, cardamom and pink pepper

The clary sage opens with its ambered and slightly smoky herb, the cardamom brings its camphor freshness, the pink pepper its lively berry. Three dry materials, without the slightest citrus.

A heart of Moroccan jasmine and patchouli

The Moroccan jasmine brings the fleshy white flower, the neroli a green clarity, and the patchouli the damp earth that begins to darken the composition.

A base of ambergris and immortelle

The ambergris brings its salty, mineral and animal facet — a material that looks like no other. The immortelle joins it with its honeyed hay and its hint of curry. Two materials, and that's it.

The house's signature

An amber without vanilla or labdanum: it is a deliberate contradiction. Perfume amber is almost always an accord — vanilla, labdanum, benzoin — which has nothing to do with real ambergris. Here, the house takes the word literally: it is real ambergris that holds the base, dry and salty, with immortelle as its only support. The result looks like no commercial amber.
