Parfumeur | Emilie Coppermann
Angham by Oman Luxury is a woody, spicy, leathery eau de parfum for men and women, created by Emilie Coppermann. The house built it around a specific place: the Royal Opera House Muscat.
An Omani house that calls upon master perfumers
Oman Luxury is an independent house founded in 2012 by Muatasim, Muadh and Ahmed, then relaunched in October 2020 with a new identity. Its approach is twofold: draw from Omani heritage — the incense route, spices, agarwood — and entrust the formulas to leading French perfumers, among whom Dominique Ropion, Marie Salamagne, Pierre Negrin, Maurice Roucel or Emilie Coppermann. One of the three founders, Muatasim Al Hinai, composes two of the perfumes in the collection himself. The bottles incorporate motifs from Omani architecture and textiles.
An opening of saffron, apple, citrus and clove
The saffron opens on its leathery and slightly metallic facet, the one that already announces the base. The apple gives a crisp and tart fruitiness, the citrus brightness, and the clove its peppery warmth. The fruit and the spice arrive together, not one after the other.
A heart of iris root, geranium and jasmine
The iris root — the rhizomes, dried for several years before being processed — brings its cold and earthy powder. The geranium adds its green and rosy facet, the jasmine a full whiteness. Three materials that create a smooth transition between the opening fruit and the final leather.
A base of ambergris, sandalwood, leather and benzoin
The ambergris brings its mineral and salty note — the house describes it as natural and precious. The sandalwood gives its lactic creaminess, the cedarwood its dry dustiness, the benzoin its sweet resin. The leather dominates the whole, and the vanilla softens it — it is what prevents the dry down from being austere. Six materials in the base, compared to four in the opening and three in the heart: the perfume grows heavier as it progresses.
The house's approach
Angham is the only perfume in the collection built around a building: the Royal Opera House Muscat, the sultanate's great lyric hall, from which the house says to draw an orchestral symphony. This is heard in the structure rather than in a material — a brilliant opening of spices and citrus, a held floral heart, a long dry down of leather and wood: the perfume is written as a progression, not as an accord. The house describes it as exotic and sensual, bold and mysterious.
For whom, for what occasions?
For those who love leathers but often find them too dry, and who are looking for a spicy opening on a dark base. It is an autumn and winter perfume, rather for the evening, with a very long-lasting presence and a marked sillage. Angham Oman Luxury will appeal to those who want a comfortable leather.
