Basso by Sospiro is a spicy aromatic woody eau de parfum, unisex, created by Christian Provenzano. The house says it is born in the silence before the curtain rises — it rises with gravity, sonorous and imperious.

A name borrowed from the opera

Basso is the lowest voice in the lyric register, and Sospiro names almost all its creations using this vocabulary: Vibrato, Contralto, Mezzo, Bel Canto. The house, founded in Italy in 2011, claims to compose its perfumes like music — in movements, through complex arrangements rather than a single accord. Basso belongs to the Classica Collection.

A grapefruit opening

The opening consists of a single material: grapefruit, bright and bitter. Opening such a deep woody fragrance with a single citrus is a compositional choice, not a compromise.

A heart of lily of the valley, carnation and labdanum

The heart combines lily of the valley, pepper carnation and labdanum, a harsh resin extracted from cistus. Only three materials to bridge the gap between the citrus and the massive base to come.

A base of ten woody and spicy materials

The base is the true subject: sandalwood, vetiver, celery seeds, black pepper and pink pepper, galbanum, nutmeg, guaiac wood, oakmoss and cedar. The celery seeds and the green, bitter galbanum are what prevent this wood from becoming conventional.

The house's signature

Christian Provenzano, master perfumer, has been composing for Sospiro since its inception — the house credits him with over fifty years of experience. The velvet bottles of the Classica Collection are finished, it says, like a butterfly wing, the house's emblem.
