Parfumeur | Marie Salamagne
Belfiore by Oman Luxury is a powdery, fruity, chypre eau de parfum, unisex, created by Marie Salamagne. With seven ingredients, it is one of the house's two shortest formulas—and the most unusual.
An Omani house that calls upon master perfumers
Oman Luxury is an independent house founded in 2012 by Muatasim, Muadh and Ahmed, then relaunched in October 2020 with a new identity. Its approach is twofold: draw from Omani heritage—the incense route, spices, agarwood—and entrust the formulas to leading French perfumers, among whom Dominique Ropion, Marie Salamagne, Pierre Negrin, Maurice Roucel or Emilie Coppermann. One of the three founders, Muatasim Al Hinai, composes two of the collection's fragrances himself. The bottles incorporate motifs from Omani architecture and textiles.
An opening of apricot and carrot
Two ingredients, and the second is surprising. Apricot provides a sweet, velvety flesh. Carrot—actually the distilled seed—brings an earthy, powdery, and slightly root-like note, very close to iris. It is rarely encountered, and never in the opening.
A heart of osmanthus and gardenia
Osmanthus is the Chinese tea flower, whose peculiarity is that it naturally smells of apricot and leather. Gardenia answers it with a creamy whiteness, almost milky. Only two flowers, without rose or jasmine: it is the most atypical heart in the catalog.
A base of suede, honey and oakmoss
Honey brings a thick and slightly animalic sweetness, suede its velvety and powdery leather—the reverse side of the skin, softer than tanned leather—and oakmoss the green humus that gives the fragrance its chypre structure. Three ingredients, and the sillage remains close to the body.
The house's signature
The formula makes the layers rhyme with each other rather than opposing them. The apricot in the head announces the osmanthus in the heart, which already smells of apricot; the honey in the base takes up the nectar of the flower; the suede was already in the osmanthus. Each ingredient prepares another, which gives a fragrance without rupture, very different from the ouds and leathers that surround it in the collection. And the apricot is not decorative: the house locates Belfiore in the village of Wakan, an Omani terraced hamlet where the earth, it says, is adorned with apricot blossoms. The head ingredient comes from the landscape.
For whom, for what occasions?
For those who love stone fruits and powdery fragrances, and are looking for something other than an oriental. It is a spring and autumn fragrance, wearable day or night, with good longevity and a discreet sillage. Belfiore Oman Luxury will suit those who want sweetness with an old-school base.
