Parfumeur | Ramón Béjar
Black Stone by Ramón Béjar is a unisex woody aromatic musk extrait de parfum, created by Ramón Béjar himself. It belongs to the My Universe Privée collection and is released as a limited-edition, numbered fragrance.
Granada and Barcelona: a cultural symphony
Ramón Béjar is a Spanish house based in Barcelona, founded by a man who is also the nose. It presents itself as a philosophy rather than a brand: bringing together the most sophisticated essences and plants on the planet in limited-edition, numbered fragrances. Its positioning can be summed up in a single phrase — shaped by the Arab-Andalusian heritage of Granada and nourished by the artistic spirit of Barcelona — and the house speaks of a cultural symphony, where Middle Eastern perfumery meets Western olfactory tastes. The catalogue is divided into two collections: My Universe Privée, eight fragrances born from a childhood passion for the mystical, which range from the deserts of Arabia to the waters of North Africa, from the rose gardens of Barcelona to the jungles of Vietnam and Colombia; and My Colourful Symphony, four lighter and more dynamic compositions.
An opening of cardamom, bergamot and green notes
Cardamom brings a fresh, camphoraceous spice, bergamot its bitter zest, and the green notes a cut stem. This is the fragrance's only freshness, and it is brief.
A heart of lavender, sandalwood and cypriol
Lavender establishes its distinctive, slightly camphoraceous aromatic character, sandalwood its creamy, milky quality, and cypriol — the calamus root, widely used in India — its dark, smoky earthiness. It is this cypriol that gives the fragrance its black colour.
A base of tonka bean, musk and vetiver
Tonka bean brings its hay-like almond note, musk a skin-like effect, and vetiver a dry root that extends the earthiness of the heart. The sillage remains understated despite the extrait concentration.
The house's approach
This fragrance was born from the perfumer's stays in the Middle East, and it gives him an explicit role: to be an ambassador, carrying the mysteries of the region to the West. The initial idea was not a scent but a colour — the brilliant blacks of obsidian, tourmaline, onyx and meteorites — and the principle derived from it: the light that is born from darkness. The formula follows this plan exactly, opening with green and fresh notes before delving into the earthiness of cypriol.
For whom, and for what occasions?
For those who love earthy woody fragrances and are looking for a lavender that does not smell like soap. It is an all-season fragrance, wearable from day to night, with long-lasting wear and a measured sillage. Black Stone Ramón Béjar will appeal to those who want something that is both understated and dark.
