Bois Impérial by Essential Parfums is a niche woody, aromatic and spicy eau de parfum, unisex, created by Quentin Bisch.

The perfumer takes center stage

Essential Parfums is a Paris-based house founded in 2018 by Géraldine Archambault, which overturns the usual logic: the perfumer's name is on the bottle, and the creation takes precedence over the packaging. Its philosophy can be summed up in one sentence: "simplicity as the ultimate luxury". The house gives every nose the same brief: create a unisex fragrance around an inspiring natural raw material, with complete creative freedom. Ten perfumers have responded, including Calice Becker, Anne Flipo, Olivier Pescheux, Nathalie Lorson, Fabrice Pellegrin, Sophie Labbé and Quentin Bisch. By limiting packaging and marketing expenses, the house reinvests in the raw materials: its formulas contain between 86 and 93% ingredients of natural origin — 93% here, at the top of the range — and are vegan. Timut pepper opens with a sparkling and zesty character — it is the Nepalese berry with grapefruit facets. Thai basil brings its anise leaf. Only two raw materials, and the signature is already established.

A heart of akigalawood and vetiver

Akigalawood unfolds — woody, peppery, slightly oud-like — supported by vetiver and its earthy root.

A base of patchouli, ambroxan and woody notes

Patchouli brings its dark earthiness, ambroxan a dry, mineral warmth. The woody notes extend its remarkable longevity, often cited at around twelve hours.

The house's signature touch

Akigalawood is a material obtained through BIOTECHNOLOGY. It is extracted from patchouli through enzymatic fermentation, and produces a peppery, dry wood halfway between oud and pepper — a scent that did not exist before its creation. Timut pepper prepares it at the top. It is this combination that makes Bois Impérial immediately recognizable, and which many have since tried to emulate. The house's brief is perfectly clear here: one raw material, one perfumer, and nothing else to hold onto.
