Genderless perfumery, entirely in extract

New Notes is an Italian house published by HIC BEAUTY, in San Giuliano Milanese, on the outskirts of Milan. It defines itself as “a new generation of perfume extracts that transcends the codes of perfumery and breaks down the boundaries of role and gender,” and it follows this formula to the letter: its entire catalog consists of perfume extracts, without a single eau de parfum. The house credits no perfumer on its bottles.

An opening of bergamot and orange

Only two citrus fruits, and it is intentional. Bergamot and orange open the perfume on a clear and sweet note, without acidity. They are only there to provide the opening: the subject arrives just after.

A heart of violet, sugar, and jasmine

Violet occupies all the space, in its confectionery version rather than its powdery and austere version. Sugar literally crystallizes it, and jasmine prevents the whole from becoming childish by adding a mature flower. It is the candy from the shop window, not the flower from the garden.

A base of cedar, moss, and vanilla

The dry-down takes back control. Cedar brings its woody dryness, moss a green and damp earth, vanilla and amber warmth. This base is what distinguishes the perfume from a confectionery accord: it anchors it in something darker.

The house's approach

Of the twenty-one New Notes references we distribute, only two have colored juice, and their ingredient lists say so: Bonbons à la Violette contains the colorants CI 17200 and CI 60730, Magico Safrano a CI 19140. Here, color is not a coincidence, it is the consequence of the subject: if a candy is mentioned, it must also have its hue. The perfume belongs to the Contemporary Blend, the house's main collection.
