Drunk Lovers Extrait Extrême by Born to Stand Out is a liqueur-sweet, woody, and leathery unisex Extrait Extrême by Jordi Fernández. It is the extrait version of the house's most famous fragrance, Drunk Lovers, reimagined around red wine, leather, and oud.
A line aged for three months in Korean jars
Born to Stand Out is a Seoul-based house, launched in 2022 by Jun Lim, a former investment banker turned creator. Its slogan says it all: “Why fit in if you were born to stand out?” But the Extrait Extrême line goes further than the rest of the catalog: the juices are concentrated between 55 and 62%, overdosed with natural oud, and above all, aged for three months in onggi, traditional Korean earthenware jars that have been used for centuries to ferment kimchi and sauces. This slow maceration in porous pottery is a method the house claims as unique. The line was presented at Esxence in Milan in February 2025; Drunk Lovers Extrait Extrême joined it in 2026. 50 ml bottle.
An opening of red wine, wine lees, and bergamot
The red wine opens the composition with dark fruit and a slight tannic sensation. The wine lees, the sediment that remains at the bottom of the vats after fermentation, add an almost earthy depth. The bergamot brightens the whole, and the clary sage brings its aromatic facet.
A heart of brandy, red ginger, and jasmine sambac
The brandy takes over, round and warm. The red ginger, obtained by supercritical CO2 extraction of Alpinia purpurata rhizomes, brings a dry and peppery bite. The davana adds a very ripe fruitiness, the jasmine sambac a floral density, and the Peru balsam envelops it all in a balsamic sweetness.
A base of roasted tonka bean, leather, and oud
The roasted tonka bean gives a roasted and slightly bitter note, the akigalawood a dry and peppery wood, the cistus its warm resin. The leather and the oud pull the composition toward the dark and sign a long and dense trail.
The house's signature touch
This is not a more concentrated version of the Drunk Lovers eau de parfum: it is another fragrance, entrusted to another nose. The eau de parfum is by Hamid Merati-Kashani and opens on cognac, juniper, and citrus; the extrait is entrusted to Jordi Fernández, who replaces this luminous opening with red wine and wine lees. At the base, the vanilla and amber of the original disappear in favor of roasted tonka bean, leather, and oud. The two versions share a starting point, a spirit accord, and take two opposite paths: the eau de parfum remains warm, the extrait becomes dark and resinous. Jordi Fernández also created Purple Stain and Melón Malo in the same line.
For whom, for what occasions?
Liqueur-sweet, woody, and leathery, this extrait is for those who love wine and spirit accords backed by dark wood, and for Drunk Lovers enthusiasts looking for a denser interpretation. Very concentrated, it should be applied sparingly. It can be worn from autumn to late winter, in the evening, by both women and men.
With Drunk Lovers Extrait Extrême Born to Stand Out, Jordi Fernández takes the house's flagship fragrance from cognac to red wine.
