Parfumeur | Maxime Exler
Caden by Oman Luxury is an amber, vanilla, and woody eau de parfum, unisex, created by Maxime Exler. From the opening notes, it features cade oil, a burnt wood rarely used in fine perfumery.
An Omani house that calls upon master perfumers
Oman Luxury is an independent house founded in 2012 by Muatasim, Muadh and Ahmed, then relaunched in October 2020 with a new identity. Its approach is twofold: drawing from Omani heritage — the incense route, spices, agarwood — and entrusting the formulas to leading French perfumers, including Dominique Ropion, Marie Salamagne, Pierre Negrin, Maurice Roucel and Emilie Coppermann. One of the three founders, Muatasim Al Hinai, composes two of the collection's fragrances himself. The bottles incorporate motifs from Omani architecture and textiles.
An opening of cardamom, saffron and cade oil
Cardamom brings its camphoraceous freshness, while saffron adds a leathery facet. Cade oil — obtained by distilling heated juniper wood — gives a hint of soot and burnt wood. Alcoholic notes complete the opening, with the warmth of spirits: the house deliberately opens with smoky and alcoholic notes.
A heart of cistus, suede, benzoin and coffee
Cistus brings its balsamic resin, suede its velvety and powdery leather, benzoin its sweet resinous and vanilla-like quality, and coffee its roasted bitterness. Four dark and enveloping materials that soften the smoke of the cade without erasing it.
A base of vanilla, labdanum, tonka bean and guaiac wood
Vanilla rounds out the fragrance, amberwood brings a dry and very long-lasting woody warmth, and tonka bean adds its almond-like coumarin. Labdanum and guaiac wood bring back the resin and smoke from the beginning: the end echoes the start.
The house's signature
Cade is a wood obtained through controlled combustion: juniper is heated until a black, tar-like oil is extracted, which was once used to treat livestock. It is a difficult material to balance, rarely found elsewhere except in trace amounts. Caden makes it its subject, names it in the title, and then surrounds it with comforting materials — suede, coffee, vanilla, tonka — to make it wearable. The house itself summarizes the formula in three words: smoky, alcoholic, gourmand.
For whom, and for what occasions?
For those who love smoky vanillas and are looking for a gourmand fragrance with a burnt quality. It is an autumn and winter fragrance, preferably for the evening, with long-lasting wear and an enveloping trail. Caden Oman Luxury will appeal to those who want sweetness held together by soot.
