Iris Coffee by Cherigan is a powdery, spicy, gourmand, unisex niche extrait de parfum made with 90% natural ingredients. Its theme: the most expensive material in perfumery versus the most everyday.
A 1929 house risen from the dead
Cherigan was founded in 1929, at 120 avenue des Champs-Élysées. Its name already tells of its era: chéri and gant, back when people still scented the skin of their gloves. The house opened a boutique in Havana, charmed movie stars, created about fifteen fragrances—including a Chance long before Chanel, in a horseshoe-shaped bottle—then disappeared around 1966. Luc Gabriel, CEO of The Different Company, rediscovered it in 2016 in the perfume archives, bought back the name, and relaunched the house in 2021, in the spirit of Roaring Twenties Art Deco. The catalog is divided into two ranges: Les Iconiques, reconstructed original formulas, and Inspirations, new creations born from the spirit of the era. Everything is an extrait de parfum, with between 90 and 99% natural ingredients, in 100 ml and 15 ml sizes.
An opening of bergamot and cardamom
Bergamot opens bright and slightly bitter, while cardamom brings its fresh, camphoraceous spice—the kind you crush into Arabic coffee. The theme is discreetly announced.
A heart of iris pallida, jasmine, and tonka bean
Iris pallida settles in: powdery, buttery, cold, with nuances of violet and carrot. Jasmine illuminates it with an unexpected whiteness, and tonka bean brings its almond and hay-like sweetness.
A base of coffee and white musk
Coffee finally arrives, roasted and bitter, and white musk creates a skin-like effect. Only two materials, but that is where the perfume is made.
The house's signature
The most expensive material in perfumery versus the most everyday. Iris pallida requires several years of rhizome drying before yielding its butter—it is not the flower that is used, but the root, peeled, washed, and then stored for years. This is what makes it an ingredient of absolute luxury. Placing it on a roasted coffee, a morning material found in every kitchen, is a contrast few houses would dare. Tonka bean bridges the two: its almond facet belongs to the powdery register of iris, its warmth to that of coffee. The house summarizes the desired sensation in one image: a sip that is both sweet and fiery, between bitterness and sugar.
For whom, for what occasions?
Powdery, spicy, and gourmand, this extract is for iris lovers seeking a warmed-up version rather than a cold one. It can be worn all year round, from the office to an evening out, by both women and men. The 15 ml size has an applicator cap, without a spray: it is applied drop by drop, and the bottle is refilled each time it is closed.
With Iris Coffee Cherigan, the house brings together the luxury of patience and an everyday habit.
