Parfumeur | Jordi Fernandez
Ciel d'Orage by OJAR is a woody, spicy, amber eau de parfum, unisex, created by Jordi Fernández. Its heart features mugwort and pine—two temperate forest ingredients—under oud.
A house born from Dhofar frankincense
OJAR is an Omani house founded by Sheikha Hind Bahwan. The name comes from HOJARI, the world's most renowned quality of frankincense, harvested in the mountains of Dhofar. The founder summarizes her project in one sentence: "OJAR is a fusion of East and West—I have brought together the best expertise from each region." The catalog is organized into six collections by ingredient, three of which come from Oman—Dhofar frankincense, Jebel Akhdar rose, and Rustaq honey—complemented by sandalwood, musk, and oud. The formulas are entrusted to perfumers from around the world: Dalia Izem, Gaël Montero, Jordi Fernández, Michel Girard, Nanako Ogi.
An opening of saffron and mugwort
Only two ingredients, and neither is fresh. The saffron brings its leathery and slightly metallic facet, the one that already announces the suede in the base. The mugwort answers with its green and camphorous bitterness, very dry. The perfume goes straight to the point, without an introductory citrus.
A heart of guaiac, pine, and rose
The heart is the fullest part of the formula, with five ingredients. The guaiac brings its almost tar-like smoke, the vetiver its root, the patchouli its earth. The pine adds a green and cold resin that one does not expect in a Gulf perfume, and the rose—one of the house's six signature ingredients—comes to soften the whole with a single floral touch.
A base of suede, oud, and styrax
The suede opens the dry-down with a velvety and powdery leather, the oud brings its woody and lively depth, the styrax its balmy and slightly smoky resin, and the sandalwood its lactic creaminess. Four ingredients that last a long time.
The house's signature
A Gulf oud is usually surrounded by rose, saffron, and resins. Ciel d'Orage keeps these ingredients but adds mugwort and pine, two temperate forest plants, green and cold. It is this contrast of temperature that explains the title: the warmth of the wood pierced by something colder and more electric. The house places this perfume in its Oud collection, and describes it as evoking crackling embers.
For whom, for what occasions?
For those who love woody ouds but prefer a drier and less sweet version. It is an autumn and winter perfume, rather for the evening, with a long-lasting presence and a marked sillage. Ciel d'Orage OJAR will appeal to those looking for an oud with freshness inside.
