Parfumeur | Dmitry Bortnikov
Cologne de Feu by Bortnikoff is a niche citrus, gourmand, and woody cologne extract, unisex, created by Dmitry Bortnikov. Seven citrus fruits open the fragrance: it is the most complex opening in the catalog.
A Thai house where the founder is also the perfumer
Bortnikoff is based in Thailand, in the very heart of the agarwood-producing regions. It was founded by Dmitry Bortnikov, a Russian perfumer who is both the owner and the nose of his brand, and who works with wild Thai ouds, sourcing his materials at the source. The catalog is divided into four lines: Entry Level, Main Collection, Colognes and Attars. At this house, the word "cologne" means neither light nor fleeting: it designates a fresh eau built with the same rare materials as its ouds. 50 ml bottle.
An opening of seven citrus fruits
Bitter orange, bigarade, blood orange, mandarin and lemon open together, joined by petitgrain — the leaf of the orange tree — and lemon litsée. A sparkling, juicy opening that evokes the power of the tropics.
A heart of raspberry, tea, jasmine and peach sorbet
Tea and jasmine form a jasmine tea accord, refreshing and slightly tannic. Raspberry and the peach sorbet accord bring a fresh, fruity fleshiness.
A base of cedar, sandalwood, guaiac wood, crocodile wood and oakmoss
Cedar, sandalwood and guaiac wood establish a woody structure, crocodile wood — a rare material that the house also uses elsewhere — makes it unique, and oakmoss brings a damp freshness. The trail is warm and lasts a long time.
The house's signature
The main role is not played by a citrus fruit. Seven citrus fruits open the fragrance, but the house is explicit: it is the lemon litsée that leads the composition. Yet this is not a citrus fruit — it is the fruit of a tree in the laurel family, which smells like lemon without being one. The entire opening is therefore built around a material that imitates the others. As for the name, it announces a fire that the formula never truly delivers: the house speaks of an inner fire that warms and gives energy, but never burns. The warmth comes from the woody base, not from a spice — there are none in the formula.
For whom, for what occasions?
Citrusy, gourmand and woody, this extract is for those who love sunny citrus fruits and want them held by wood. It gives its best from spring to summer, during the day, worn equally well by women as by men.
With Bortnikoff Cologne de Feu, Dmitry Bortnikov builds seven citrus fruits around a material that is not one.
