From cities lived to vanished cities

At Contes de Parfums, each fragrance is a personal memory of the perfumer, who works with complete freedom of expression, and their name is printed on the bottle. To this end, the house has brought together leading noses — Alberto Morillas, Anne Flipo, Carlos Benaïm, Ramon Monegal, Jean-Christophe Hérault, Caroline Dumur. The Cities collection, launched in 2022, tells the stories of cities they have personally lived in; the Timeless Cities collection takes it a step further and tackles vanished cities — those that no perfumer has been able to visit. An opening of black pepper, nutmeg, and pine

Black pepper opens dry and vibrant, nutmeg brings its woody warmth, and pine a green and frank resin — the forest enters first.

A heart of incense, magnolia, and cypress

Incense rises, resinous and smoky. Cypress answers it with a dry greenness, while magnolia brings a floral and lemony clarity.

A base of Bourbon vanilla, sandalwood, and cashmere wood

Bourbon vanilla rounds it out, sandalwood brings its milky creaminess and cashmere wood a velvety texture. The trail is soft and contemplative.

The house's approach

Two conifers framing the incense. Pine at the top, cypress in the heart: the vegetation advancing on the stone. And between the two, the rising incense, resinous and smoky. It is literally the subject of the fragrance: the jungle and the stone fighting over the same space, material against material. The construction mirrors what is seen at Angkor — roots gripping stone towers — without one ever prevailing over the other.
