Parfumeur | Dominique Ropion
Dejan by Oman Luxury is a woody, amber floral eau de parfum, unisex, created by Dominique Ropion. Its top note contains only one ingredient: Jebel Akhdar rose water.
An Omani house that calls upon master perfumers
Oman Luxury is an independent house founded in 2012 by Muatasim, Muadh and Ahmed, then relaunched in October 2020 with a new identity. Its approach is twofold: draw from Omani heritage — the incense route, spices, agarwood — and entrust the formulas to leading French perfumers, among whom Dominique Ropion, Marie Salamagne, Pierre Negrin, Maurice Roucel or Emilie Coppermann. One of the three founders, Muatasim Al Hinai, composes two of the perfumes in the collection himself. The bottles incorporate motifs from Omani architecture and textiles.
An opening of Jebel Akhdar rose water
One ingredient, and that's it. Rose water is the hydrosol resulting from distillation — much lighter and more aqueous than a rose absolute, with a green and slightly metallic facet. It comes from the Jebel Akhdar, whose name means the green mountain: it is the Omani massif where roses are grown on terraces. The house speaks of a smoked rose, and that is exactly the effect — the smoke comes from the heart and rises from the very first minutes.
A heart of cistus, labdanum and cypriol
Cistus and labdanum come from the same plant: labdanum is the resin extracted from the sticky leaves of the cistus, and the house places the two side by side — the leaf and its gum. The first gives a balsamic and slightly bitter greenness, the second an amber and leathery warmth. Cypriol essential oil, the Indian root also called nagarmotha, provides the smoky earth. The contrast with the top is clear: we go from water to gum.
A base of oud, musk and amber
Oud brings its woody and lively depth, musk the skin effect, amber its resinous warmth. The house specifies that the oud is natural. Three ingredients that last a very long time and give the perfume its sillage.
The house's approach
Seven ingredients in total, including only one in the top: it is a formula of unusual brevity for a perfume of this level. And the choice of rose water rather than absolute is not insignificant — the hydrosol is the lightest and most volatile part of the distillation. Placing it alone at the opening of an oud is like introducing the perfume through its most delicate ingredient before closing it with the densest. Between the two, cistus and its resin hold the hinge. The house says it seeks a feeling of grandeur and uniqueness.
For whom, for what occasions?
For those who love amber ouds and are looking for a readable composition rather than an accumulation. It is an autumn and winter perfume, rather for the evening, with a very long-lasting presence and a marked sillage. Dejan Oman Luxury will appeal to those who want an oud built around a rose.
