Parfumeur | Gökhan Şimşek
Dragon Oud by Odorare Parfums is an oriental fruity woody extrait de parfum, unisex, composed by Gökhan Şimşek. Its top aligns three tropical fruits and three sweet materials before a Thai oud closes it all.
Odorare Parfums' first creation
Odorare is an independent niche perfumery, in-store and online, whose catalog brings together more than a hundred houses. Odorare Parfums is its own line, and Dragon Oud is its first creation. It was born from a collaboration with @LyesParfumeur and was composed by Gökhan Şimşek. The choice can be summed up in one sentence: to build an oriental that does not start with wood, but with fruit — and to make both registers hold together in the same extrait.
An opening of dragon fruit, passion fruit and pineapple
Seven materials at once, and not a single fresh note. The dragon fruit, the passion fruit and the pineapple give the tangy flesh of the tropics; the caramel, the sugar cane and the date immediately lay their cooked sugar on it, and the cocoa a dry bitterness. It is a rare opening: usually, an oriental extrait starts on a citrus.
A heart of saffron, cinnamon and Damascena rose
The heart ensures the transition, and it is the densest passage. The saffron brings its leathery and slightly metallic facet, the cinnamon, the nutmeg, the ginger and the pink pepper their spicy warmth. Three flowers cross through it: the Damascena rose, honeyed and deep, the lily of the valley, green and clear, and the marigold — the marigold — whose herbaceous and slightly bitter note is very rarely found in perfumery.
A base of Thai oud, leather and patchouli
The Thai oud is the material announced by the title, and it is named by its origin: softer and fruitier than Gulf ouds. The patchouli brings its earth, the cedarwood its dry dust, the leather its tanned skin. The myrrh and the labdanum — two resins — establish the oriental register, while the vanilla, the amber and the musk round off the fall and prolong the longevity.
The house's gesture
Most oud perfumes lay a citrus in the top to prepare the entry into the wood. Dragon Oud does the opposite: it opens on a complete gourmandise — three fruits, three sugars and a cocoa — and lets the wood arrive only in the base, after a heart of five spices. The formula counts twenty-four materials, where contemporary niche tends towards short compositions. Two details sign it: the specified Thai oud rather than generic, and the marigold in the heart, a flower that is almost never encountered.
For whom, for what occasions?
For those who seek an affordable oud by fruit rather than by resin, and a signature that evolves frankly over the hours. It is an autumn and winter perfume, rather for the evening, with the longevity of an extrait and a marked sillage. Dragon Oud Odorare Parfums will go to those who are comfortable being noticed.
