Parfumeur | Jordi Fernandez
Eagle Eyed Stranger by OJAR is a woody, spicy chypre eau de parfum for both men and women, created by Jordi Fernández. It features allspice in the base—a spice almost never found at the very bottom of a fragrance pyramid.
A house born from Dhofar frankincense
OJAR is an Omani house founded by Sheikha Hind Bahwan. Its name comes from HOJARI, the world’s most renowned grade of frankincense, harvested in the mountains of Dhofar. The founder sums up her vision in a single sentence: “OJAR is a fusion of East and West—I have brought together the best expertise from each region.” The catalogue is organized into six collections based on raw materials, three of which come from Oman—Dhofar frankincense, Jebel Akhdar rose, and Rustaq honey—complemented by sandalwood, musk, and oud. The formulas are entrusted to perfumers from around the world: Dalia Izem, Gaël Montero, Jordi Fernández, Michel Girard, and Nanako Ogi.
An opening of frankincense, bay leaf, and lily of the valley
Frankincense—the house’s founding material—opens the fragrance rather than closing it: its dry, peppery resin is present from the very first second. Bay leaf adds an aromatic bitterness, while lily of the valley provides a fresh, green touch, the only floral note in the formula.
A heart of dry wood, vetiver, and oakmoss
This is where the chypre structure takes shape. Oakmoss brings its green, slightly damp humus, vetiver its smoky root, and a dry wood accord adds a dusty, woody layer. No fruit, no sweetness: the heart is entirely mineral and vegetal.
A base of allspice, white amber, and birch
Three materials and two surprises. Allspice—the berry also known as four-spice because it smells of cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, and pepper all at once—appears at the very end of the fragrance, where a spice is usually placed at the top. Birch, distilled by heating the wood, adds a tarry, leathery smoke, while white amber softens the whole.
The house’s signature approach
The fragrance reverses two expected placements: frankincense, which perfumery almost always reserves for the base, opens the composition; the spice, usually placed at the top for its brilliance, closes it. The trajectory is thus turned upside down—the fragrance begins dry and austere, ending warm and clove-like. It is also one of only two chypres we carry from this house, built on genuine oakmoss rather than an amber accord. The house places it in its Frankincense Collection.
For whom and for what occasions?
For those who love woody chypres and dry frankincense without sugar or fruit. It is an autumn and winter fragrance, suitable for both day and evening, with good longevity and a clear sillage. Eagle Eyed Stranger OJAR is for those seeking an austere, distinctive fragrance.
