An imaginary heroine, a house founded by a female perfumer

Ella K was born in Paris in 2017, created by perfumer Sonia Constant with her husband, himself a specialist in raw material sourcing. Very few perfume houses are created by female perfumers: Ella K is an exception. “Ella K” is an imaginary heroine, inspired by three explorers from another century: Ella Maillart — from whom Sonia Constant says she borrowed her first name —, Karen Blixen and Alexandra David-Néel. Each perfume is the olfactory memory of a moment lived somewhere in the world, and rests on an iconic ingredient, a symbol of the destination. Trained at the ISIPCA and then at Givaudan, where she still works, Sonia Constant created Guerlain L'Abeille, Montblanc Emblem, Balmain Extatic and Burberry Sport. 100 ml bottle.

An opening of pink pepper, spider lily and Havana cigar

Pink pepper opens fruity and peppery, the spider lily brings a floral whiteness. Then the Havana cigar settles in, dry and smoky.

A heart of iris, cocoa bean and white cedar

Iris brings its cold powder, the cocoa bean its roasted bitterness. White cedar essential oil and Indonesian patchouli establish the wood.

A base of tonka bean, olibanum and amber

Tonka bean and vanilla round out, olibanum essential oil brings its resinous smoke and amber a lasting warmth. The trail is dense.

The house's signature

A cigar in the top note, and an iris to answer it. Havana cigar is almost never formulated — even less so in the opening, where perfumery usually places freshness. Here it is the iconic ingredient, and it names its destination itself. Facing it, the cold and powdery iris and the roasted cocoa bean: the contrast between the powder and the roasted is the whole subject. A register where the feminine and the masculine cease to have a meaning.
