Parfumeur | Dalia Izem
Épine du Désert by OJAR is a spicy floral woody eau de parfum, unisex, created by Dalia Izem. With seven ingredients, it is the shortest formula of the house's twelve eaux de parfum.
A house born from Dhofar frankincense
OJAR is an Omani house founded by Sheikha Hind Bahwan. The name comes from HOJARI, the most renowned quality of frankincense in the world, harvested in the mountains of Dhofar. The founder summarizes her project in one sentence: “OJAR is a fusion of the East and the West — I have brought together the best know-how from each region”. The catalog is organized into six collections by ingredient, three of which come from Oman — Dhofar frankincense, Jebel Akhdar rose and Rustaq honey — complemented by sandalwood, musk and oud. The formulas are entrusted to perfumers from around the world: Dalia Izem, Gaël Montero, Jordi Fernández, Michel Girard, Nanako Ogi.
An opening of saffron and Jamaican pepper
Two spices, nothing else. Saffron brings its leathery, slightly metallic and cut hay facet — the one that already announces the suede at the base. Jamaican pepper, the berry also called allspice, adds its clove and cinnamon. It is a warm and dry opening, without the slightest citrus to lighten it.
A heart of rose and jasmine
Two flowers, facing each other. The rose — one of the house's six founding ingredients — brings its honey and depth, jasmine a full and slightly indolic whiteness. The saffron from the top still crosses them: the flowers arrive already heated.
A base of sandalwood, suede and dry woods
Sandalwood brings its lactic creaminess, suede closes the perfume on a velvety and powdery leather, softer than tanned leather, and an accord of dry woods lays down the mineral dust. The fall is soft, while the start was all about spices.
The house's gesture
Seven ingredients, divided two, two and three: it is the most stripped-down formula of the twelve eaux de parfum, and it is heard. Each layer is readable, each ingredient identifiable. The house claims a precise inspiration, the mukhallat — the Middle Eastern art of assembling precious ingredients — and says it built the perfume around pure rose essence, celebrated for its simple beauty. Épine du Désert belongs to its Rose collection, by the way.
For whom, for what occasions?
For those who love spicy roses and are looking for a simple perfume to follow, without accumulation. It is an autumn and winter perfume, wearable day or night, with good longevity and a measured sillage. Épine du Désert OJAR will suit those who prefer readable formulas.
