Genderless perfumery, exclusively in extract

New Notes is an Italian house published by HIC BEAUTY, in San Giuliano Milanese, on the outskirts of Milan. It describes itself as “a new generation of extraits de parfum that transcends the codes of perfumery and breaks down the boundaries of role and gender,” and it lives up to the formula: its entire collection consists of extraits de parfum, without a single eau de parfum. The house does not credit any perfumer on its bottles.

An opening of mandarin and saffron

Two ingredients, and an immediate contrast. The mandarin provides a very brief, sweet sparkle, while the saffron brings its leathery, slightly medicinal facet. The citrus merely opens the door: the saffron already signals the dark direction of the fragrance.

A heart of iris, violet, and animalic notes

This is where the fragrance comes alive. The iris and violet form a powdery, cold, cosmetic accord—that of makeup rather than a garden. And the house places them on animalic notes and resinous labdanum, which is a bold choice: the powder becomes skin. Few compositions dare such a combination.

A base of sandalwood, benzoin, and vanilla

The dry-down layers three woods. Creamy sandalwood, dry cedarwood, and cottony cashmere wood, enveloped in benzoin, vanilla, and musk. As an extract, this base lasts a very long time and gives the fragrance its bold sillage.

The house's approach

New Notes has created two fragrances that bear the same name and offer two opposing interpretations of the same idea. Erotika Minimale plays softly, with a floral bouquet held at a distance by iris. Erotika Maximale does exactly the opposite: it places iris and violet on animalic notes and embraces the statement. It is the only pair in the collection to work this way. It belongs to Modern Liquid, the 60 ml collection, and is part of a limited edition.

For those who love dark powdery fragrances and are not afraid of an animalic touch. It is an autumn and winter fragrance, preferably for the evening, with strong longevity and sillage. Erotika Maximale New Notes is for those who find Minimale too subtle.
