Parfumeur | Serge de Oliveira
Étoile de Bali by Nectar Olfactif is a woody floral musk perfume extract, unisex, created by Serge de Oliveira. It is inspired by a precise Balinese ritual, the Pluie de Fleurs.
A house inspired by the world of bees
Nectar Olfactif is a French house founded by David Perrin, a niche perfume and travel enthusiast who has been in the perfume industry for many years. The entire brand is built around an image it claims for itself: the world of bees foraging on flowers, plants, and fruit trees, and fragrances designed like the nectar they bring back. The formulas are created by perfumers from major fragrance houses — Robertet for five of the six, CPL Aromas for Cerana — and each bottle bears a golden bee seal.
An opening of bergamot, mandarin, and freesia
The opening is clear and green. Bergamot and mandarin bring their radiance without acidity, and freesia — a flower rarely found in the top notes — adds its peppery and slightly watery side. It is an early morning garden opening, before the heat rises.
A heart of lily, honey, and vegetal notes
Lily stands out, white and fleshy, with this powdery and slightly green facet that distinguishes it from other white flowers. Honey thickens it without making it sweet, and vegetal notes keep the whole thing on the stem side rather than the petal side. It is a heart of living flower, not a cut bouquet.
A base of sandalwood and musk
Only two materials, and that is a choice. Sandalwood brings its lactic creaminess, musk the skin effect. The base does not seek to tell anything other than the heart: it extends it and brings it closer to the body.
The house's gesture
The perfume comes from a Balinese ritual that the house calls the Pluie de Fleurs: floral waters in which petals of jasmine, gardenia, lily, freesia, and hibiscus are infused. Two of these five flowers are literally found in the formula, lily in the heart and freesia in the top — the perfume does not cite the ritual, it takes its materials. The house reminds us that Bali has about 42,000 plant species, including 20,000 varieties of orchids. Étoile de Bali belongs to Opus N° 1, the house's first series, with Melipona, Secret du Nil, and Suprême Nectar.
For whom, for what occasions?
For those who love white flowers without heaviness and are looking for a honey that does not turn into syrup. It is a spring and summer perfume, wearable day or night, soft but tenacious. Étoile de Bali Nectar Olfactif will suit those who want a solar floral with a skin base.
