Geranium Balsamic Note by Bohoboco is a niche aromatic, floral and amber eau de parfum, unisex, created by Michał Gilbert Lach. The material at the heart of the composition is geranium.
A house that names its perfumes after their materials
Bohoboco is a Polish house based in Warsaw. It was born in 2009 as a fashion brand, founded by designers Michał Gilbert Lach and Kamil Owczarek. A first perfume appeared in 2012, before the collection was launched in 2016 — a project in which Lach, having worked in hairdressing, then makeup and later fashion design, says he found his true calling. The house's signature lies in its naming convention: each perfume simply bears the name of two or three of its materials, without a story or character. Sea Salt Caramel, Vanilla Black Pepper, Wild Carrot Oud — and even provocative names like Magic Mushrooms or Polish Potatoes. The first compositions were created in Grasse, and the house has been awarded by the Fragrance Foundation UK, Vogue Beauty and Elle Style. Everything is available as a 50 ml eau de parfum, unisex.
An opening of juniper berry and bay leaf
Juniper berry opens dry and resinous, with this facet of forest and cut wood, while the bay leaf brings its herbal green and slightly spicy note. Only two materials: the opening is clean, almost austere.
A heart of cedarwood
The heart contains only one material: cedarwood, dry and resinous, with its sharpened pencil scent. The entire perfume focuses here on a single scent, before opening up again.
A base of geranium, olibanum and balsamic notes
Geranium finally arrives — green, rosy, slightly peppery — accompanied by olibanum and balsamic notes that envelop it in resin. The trail is calm, sober, and lasts a long time.
The house's approach
The scent of grandmothers, said without irony. Michał Gilbert Lach composed this from his "beautiful memories related to grandmothers" — and the choice of the plant is no coincidence: geranium is the flower of windowsills and balconies, the one found with the elderly rather than with perfumers. The construction is just as unusual: geranium, a volatile material that is usually placed in the top notes, is here relegated to the very base, and the heart contains only one ingredient. Six materials in total: it is one of the house's most stripped-down formulas.
For whom, for what occasions?
Aromatic, floral and amber, this eau de parfum is for those who like dry greens and resins, far from sweet florals. It can be worn all year round, during the day, without distinction of gender.
With Geranium Balsamic Note Bohoboco, Michał Gilbert Lach bottles a Polish childhood memory.
