Ingenious Ginger by Goldfield & Banks is a unisex eau de parfum that is citrusy, amber and floral. The recreation of a flower that has no scent.

The first Australian perfume house

Goldfield & Banks was founded in Sydney in 2016 by Dimitri Weber, a French-Belgian who settled in Australia after a long career in the perfume industry in Europe. Seeking an Australian fine perfume house upon his arrival, he found none: so he created the first. The name pays tribute to Joseph Banks, the botanist who accompanied James Cook to Botany Bay in 1770 and introduced eucalyptus, acacia and banksia to Europe — the latter genus bears his name. The house combines rare Australian botanicals with the French methodology of perfumery, and its creations have been unisex from day one.

An opening of citrus and ginger flower

Italian bergamot and Brazilian mandarin open with a bright citrus. The Australian ginger flower accord joins them: it is the subject of the perfume, built from red ginger, Alpinia caerulea, which grows in Queensland.

A heart of magnolia and neroli

Chinese magnolia brings its lemony white flower, neroli its sunny whiteness. Only two ingredients, chosen to extend the lightness of the top notes without weighing them down.

A base of amber and sandalwood

Amber and vanilla establish the warmth, Australian sandalwood its creaminess and musk its longevity. The base warms up a perfume which, without it, would remain a citrus fragrance.

The house's signature

Inventing the scent of a flower that has none. The torch ginger lily is spectacular to look at and practically odorless. There is therefore no olfactory reference to imitate: the house had to compose it from scratch, starting from the red ginger that grows next to it. It is a perfumer's exercise in the strictest sense, the exact opposite of working with a noble ingredient that is already known.
