Parfumeur | Leonardo Lucheze
Pacific Rock Swell by Goldfield & Banks is a marine, woody and aromatic unisex perfume extract, created by Leonardo Lucheze (Takasago). The densest and most intense interpretation of the Pacific Rock universe, concentrated at 30%.
Australia's first fragrance house
Goldfield & Banks was founded in Sydney in 2016 by Dimitri Weber, a French-Belgian who settled in Australia after a long career in the European fragrance industry. Upon his arrival, he searched for an Australian fine fragrance house but found none: so he created the first. The name pays tribute to Joseph Banks, the botanist who accompanied James Cook to Botany Bay in 1770 and introduced eucalyptus, acacia and banksia to Europe — the latter genus bears his name. The house combines rare Australian botanicals with the French methodology of perfumery, and its creations have been unisex from day one.
An opening of bergamot, cardamom and clary sage
Bergamot oil opens bright and zesty, while cardamom oil adds a spicy, almost camphoraceous freshness. Clary sage oil lends the whole a cool, herbal note: the offshore wind, just before the wave.
A heart of marine algae, mimosa and fir balsam
Marine algae are the central material: they bring a darker and more textured salinity than the usual aquatic freshness. Around them, sage returns in absolute, rounder than the top note oil, while geranium gives its rosy and green facet, mimosa absolute a powdery sweetness, fir balsam absolute a balsamic note and labdanum absolute an amber warmth.
A base of Australian sandalwood and ambergris
Australian sandalwood and patchouli lay down a warm wood, Madagascar ylang-ylang rounds it with a sun-drenched note, and ambergris extends the salinity of the algae onto the skin. The sillage remains mineral, both diffusive and close to the skin.
The house's signature
For its tenth anniversary, the house returns to its very first formulation. Pacific Rock Swell was created for Goldfield & Banks' tenth anniversary and extends Pacific Rock Moss, the creation with which it all began. Where Pacific Rock Moss consists of six materials and remains airy, Swell contains thirteen and rises to 30% concentration. It does not include coastal moss: the sea is entrusted to marine algae, to capture the moment when the swell forms, before the wave breaks. Clary sage appears twice, as an oil in the top and as an absolute in the heart.
For whom, for what occasions?
Marine, woody and aromatic, this extract is for those who love marine fragrances but want them denser and longer-lasting, and for lovers of Pacific Rock Moss seeking its deepest version. From spring to autumn, day or night; one to two sprays are enough. The house suggests layering it with Bohemian Lime or Mystic Bliss.
With Pacific Rock Swell Goldfield & Banks, the Australian coast moves from the breeze to the swell.
