Velvet Splendour by Goldfield & Banks is a floral, woody, chypre eau de parfum, unisex. Australian mimosa placed under aldehydes.
The first Australian perfume house
Goldfield & Banks was founded in Sydney in 2016 by Dimitri Weber, a French-Belgian who settled in Australia after a long career in the perfume industry in Europe. Seeking an Australian fine perfume house upon his arrival, he found none: he created the first. The name pays tribute to Joseph Banks, the botanist who accompanied James Cook to Botany Bay in 1770 and introduced eucalyptus, acacia and banksia to Europe — the latter genus bears his name. The house combines rare Australian botanicals with the French perfume methodology, and its creations have been unisex from day one.
An aldehyde opening
Aldehydes open the composition with that soapy, sparkling sensation that defined the great florals of the last century. Mandarin brightens them with a rounded citrus note.
A mimosa heart
Mimosa absolute is the subject of the perfume. It is the wattle, Australia's national floral emblem — the Acacia genus, one of the plants that Joseph Banks himself brought back to Europe. A yellow flower, powdery, honeyed and slightly green. Indian jasmine sambac and orange blossom broaden it.
A base of guaiac and tonka bean
Paraguayan guaiac wood brings its dry smoke, Indonesian patchouli the earth. Tonka bean adds almond and cut hay, Australian sandalwood its creaminess.
The house's signature
An aldehydic chypre, an almost extinct genre. Aldehydes brought French perfumery glory in the 1920s and then went out of fashion; using them today is a deliberate choice. Placing them before the wattle means making a classic European convention dialogue with a flower that Europe does not know — this is exactly the house's program, summarized in a single bottle.
For whom, for what occasions?
Floral, woody and chypre, this eau de parfum is for those who love great classic florals and chyprés. From autumn to spring, by day as well as by evening. It is the most classic construction.
With Velvet Splendour Goldfield & Banks, a European convention meets a flower that Europe ignores.
