Greek Keys by Sarah Baker is a fresh aromatic citrus extrait de parfum, unisex, created by Ashley Eden Kessler. “Horizon, refreshing, yachting”: the three words of the house.

The Greek key, a motif turned into a fragrance

Sarah Baker is a multidisciplinary artist — film, photography, installation — and the founder of the house, based in an East London studio. She entrusts each fragrance to a different nose: “we collaborate on our fragrances rather than dictate.” Greek Keys takes its name from the Greek key, this geometric meander motif. It belongs to the series of four fragrances inspired by luxury fabric patterns exhibited in April 2017 by the Institute for Art and Olfaction in Los Angeles, along with Leopard, Tartan, and Lace. The house summarizes it in a formula: “Wear fresh to get fresh.”

An opening of pink grapefruit, lemon, mandarin, and rosemary

The pink grapefruit, lemon, and mandarin “collide in the waves,” says the house. Rosemary steers them toward the aromatic: it is what prevents this opening from being a cologne.

A heart of crystalline sea water, elemi, and ozonic notes

Crystalline sea water is the central note, and the name is the house’s. The ozonic notes open up the space, elemi — a light, lemony, peppery resin — gives it body. “A raft of ozonic notes and crystalline sea water refreshes and revives,” it writes.

A base of cedar, oakmoss, vetiver, and coumarin

The cedar brings its dryness, the oakmoss a green and bitter dampness, the vetiver a smoky root. The coumarin rounds off the whole with a sweetness of cut hay. The house speaks of a “soft and persistent base of moss and cedar, sprinkled with sea spray.”

The house’s signature touch

Oakmoss in the base of a fresh fragrance is an unconventional choice: it is a chypre material, heavy and green, that summer perfumery usually avoids. Yet it is what gives Greek Keys its longevity — where fresh fragrances with great sillage evaporate, this one clings.
