Parfumeur | Jean-Michel Santorini
Havana Paradise by Karakash is an oriental, gourmand, and spicy perfume extract, unisex, created by Jean-Michel Santorini. Tobacco appears twice, and no citrus opens the composition.
Twelve fragrances, seven perfumers, one single year
Karakash Perfume is a Turkish haute parfumerie house, and its history has this particularity: all twelve of its fragrances were launched in the same year, in 2023 — a complete collection from the outset, unlike most houses that build their catalog reference by reference. Even rarer: these twelve creations are signed by seven different noses — Mohammad Tammam Mando, Jean-Michel Santorini, Amandine Galliano, Marc Zini, Marie Huguenot, Laure-Leta Jacquet, and Émilie Bouge. The bottles are sculptural, and the house's narrative revolves around self-preparation and confidence.
An opening of tobacco and dried fruits
Tobacco opens the composition, dried leaf and honeyed, without the slightest citrus to introduce it. The dried fruits bring their concentrated sweetness, while ginger and clove provide the warm spice. The fragrance is already dense from the very first second.
A heart of cacao, vanilla, and tobacco
Cacao establishes the rich bitterness, while vanilla and tonka bean provide the sweetness. And tobacco returns: it is the same material as in the opening, but softened by the sugar and richness that now surround it.
A base of honey and labdanum
Honey brings its waxy and slightly animalic sweetness, labdanum its amber and leathery resin, and benzoin its vanilla-like balsamic quality. The woody notes hold the whole together.
The house's signature touch
Tobacco is used twice, first in the opening and then in the heart. This explains the fragrance's density: the material never passes the baton, it simply changes its surroundings — dry and spicy at first, then gourmand. The other choice is the complete absence of citrus: nothing lightens the opening, whereas almost all gourmand oriental fragrances slip in a bergamot to soften the start.
For whom, and for what occasions?
Oriental, gourmand, and spicy, this extract is for those who love tobacco and spicy gourmand fragrances, and do not need a reassuring opening. From autumn to winter, for evening wear. It is the densest of the twelve.
With Havana Paradise Karakash, a material changes its surroundings instead of passing the baton.
