Parfumeur | Ramón Béjar
Holy Oud by Ramón Béjar is a unisex spicy amber woody extrait de parfum, composed by Ramón Béjar himself. It belongs to the My Universe Privée collection, is released as a limited and numbered edition, and is the most expensive reference in the house's catalog.
Granada and Barcelona, a cultural symphony
Ramón Béjar is a Spanish house based in Barcelona, whose founder is also the nose. It presents itself as a philosophy rather than a brand: bringing together the most sophisticated essences and plants on the planet in limited and numbered edition fragrances. Its positioning can be summed up in one sentence — formed in the Arab-Andalusian heritage of Granada, nourished by the artistic spirit of Barcelona — and the house speaks of a cultural symphony, where Middle Eastern perfumery meets Western olfactory tastes. The catalog is divided into two collections: My Universe Privée, eight perfumes born from a childhood passion for the mystical, which range from the deserts of Arabia to the waters of North Africa, from the rose gardens of Barcelona to the jungles of Vietnam and Colombia; and My Colourful Symphony, four lighter and more dynamic compositions.
An opening of oud and precious woods
Oud is there from the very first second, which is rare: most compositions reserve it for the base. It opens woody, animalic, and fermented, surrounded by precious woods. No freshness comes to soften the entry — the perfume immediately announces what it is.
A heart of nutmeg, benzoin, and amber flower
Nutmeg brings its warm and dry spice, benzoin its vanilla resin, amber flower a powdery sweetness. This heart is the only tender moment of the composition: it softens the oud without contradicting it.
A base of incense, Indochinese agarwood oil, sandalwood, and myrrh
Indochinese agarwood oil — oud in its extracted form, the most concentrated that can be — returns in the base. Incense and myrrh bring their dry and smoky resins, sandalwood its creamy lactic quality. The house describes this base by an effect rather than a scent: a serene and timeless elegance.
The house's gesture
The perfumer discovered oud thirty-three years ago, at a time when the material was still unknown in the West. He was sufficiently convinced to launch his first oud spray on the Persian Gulf market — a commercial gesture that changed the place of this material in global perfumery. Holy Oud is the culmination of this journey: it brings together what the house calls sacred materials — incense, myrrh, benzoin, sandalwood — around a natural Indochinese oud. And he uses it twice, as wood in the opening and then as oil in the base.
For whom, for what occasions?
For those who already know oud and are looking for a resinous rather than sweet reading. It is an autumn and winter perfume, for the evening, with a very long-lasting presence and a wide sillage — one spray is enough. Holy Oud Ramón Béjar will appeal to those who want oud in its most stripped-down form.
