A house born from a neuropsychiatrist

Indices Parfums is one of the very few Belgian perfume brands, based in Brussels. It was born from the meeting of Olga, a doctor in neuropsychiatry and biochemist, and Hubert Alexandre, owner of the Parfum d'Ambre perfumery and co-creator of L'Écrin à Parfums. Olga specialized in the therapeutic use of perfumes — she notably led Le parfum des anges, a project intended to soothe the daily lives of sick children and their families. Each creation is therefore built around a precise emotional effect. The house works collection by collection, with perfumers from different backgrounds, and donates one euro per perfume sold to the NGO Initiative Développement, which supports small ylang-ylang producers in the Comoros.

A cherry opening

Cherry opens the composition alone: red fruit, juicy, with that hint of bitter almond that the pit carries. It is what gives the perfume its radiance in the first few minutes.

A heart of cherry blossom and almond

Cherry blossom — the sakura — occupies the center, extended by almond. The link between the two is not decorative: almond shares the same facet as the cherry pit, and it is what makes the flower credible.

A vanilla base

Vanilla closes the composition alone. Its powdery roundness extends the almond and gives the perfume its longevity on the skin.

The house's approach

Sakura has almost no scent. Ornamental cherry trees in Japan are celebrated for their visual, not olfactory, bloom: their scent is so faint that no extraction is possible. Any cherry blossom in perfumery is therefore an invention, constructed here from cherry and almond. The perfume does not reproduce a scent, it creates one — which exactly matches the house's project: to produce a state rather than copy reality.
