Kajal IV by Kajal is a woody, gourmand, and fruity unisex eau de parfum. Winner of the 2024 Art and Olfaction Award in the Independent category.
Kohl, modesty, and two men from the world of luxury
Kajal Perfumes Paris was founded in 2012 by Moe Khalaf and Ibrahim Faris, and its first fragrance was released in 2014. Both come from the world of luxury: Ibrahim Faris started at nineteen in Jordan before becoming brand manager of the Al Tayer Group in Dubai; Moe Khalaf spent ten years at YSL Beauté, eventually heading the Saudi market, and later served as Middle East Regional Director at Estée Lauder. The name says it all: kajal refers to kohl in Indian culture and comes from the Arabic word khajal, meaning modesty. The house is based in Dubai, but its fragrances are primarily composed in France. This creation belongs to the ARQAM collection — the numbers in Arabic, the house's numbered line.
An opening of rum, cardamom, and davana
The rum opens with warm, woody cane spirit, while cardamom brings its camphoraceous freshness and blackcurrant bud its green, sulfurous tartness. Davana completes this opening: an Indian plant that is simultaneously fruity, anise-like, and slightly rum-like.
A heart of leather, jasmine, and palm tree
The leather establishes the dark material, while the jasmine provides the white flower. The palm tree brings a dry, green note of leaf and trunk — the landscape surrounding the fruit that will appear in the base.
A base of dates and vanilla
The dates close the composition with a brown, candied, and slightly fermented sweetness, extended by vanilla, woody notes, and musk. It is a desert base in the truest sense: the fruit of the date palm.
The house's signature
Davana smells different on two people. This plant, grown and distilled for centuries in southern India, reacts to skin chemistry to the point that two wearers will experience different interpretations — fruitier on one, more anise-like on the other. And the tree is told in its entirety: the palm tree at heart, its dates in the base. This work earned the creation the 2024 Art and Olfaction Award in the Independent category, one of the most respected accolades in niche perfumery.
For whom, and for what occasions?
Woody, gourmand, and fruity, this eau de parfum is for those who love woody gourmands and candied fruits, and who welcome a fragrance that will truly belong to them. From autumn to winter, for evening wear. It is the house's most awarded creation.
With Kajal IV, an Indian plant makes every wear unique.
