The Khanjar Bakhoor by Oman Luxury is an agarwood chip incense, woody and leathery, presented in a 48 g package. It is the burnable version of the eau de parfum of the same name.
An Omani house that calls upon master perfumers
Oman Luxury is an independent house founded in 2012 by Muatasim, Muadh and Ahmed, then relaunched in October 2020 with a new identity. Its approach is twofold: draw from Omani heritage — the incense route, spices, agarwood — and entrust the formulas to leading French perfumers, among whom Dominique Ropion, Marie Salamagne, Pierre Negrin, Maurice Roucel or Emilie Coppermann. One of the three founders, Muatasim Al Hinai, composes two of the collection's fragrances himself. The bottles incorporate motifs from Omani architecture and textiles.
What this bakhoor smells like
A woody, leathery, and earthy scent. Agarwood provides the dark, resinous base; leather and patchouli bring tanned skin and damp earth, while sandalwood rounds out the whole with a creamy, milky finish. It is the same direction as the Khanjar eau de parfum, denser and without the top spices.
Bakhoor, and how to use it
Bakhoor is an incense composed of agarwood chips infused with perfume oils and resins, then left to macerate. It is not burned with a flame: one or two chips are placed on an electric warming plate or on already-whitened charcoal, and the gentle heat releases the fragrance without carbonizing it. A few minutes are enough to perfume a room, and the scent clings to textiles for hours. In Oman, it traditionally accompanies the reception of guests in the majlis, the living room where guests are received.
The house's signature
Few perfume houses offer their creations both in a bottle and as chips to burn. Oman Luxury does this for three of its fragrances, including Khanjar, which allows the two to be layered: the bakhoor on clothes and in the room, the eau de parfum on the skin. This is a common domestic practice in the peninsula, where the space is perfumed before perfuming oneself.
For whom, for what occasions?
For those who already own the eau de parfum and want to extend its trail at home, or for those discovering bakhoor through a woody fragrance. It is suitable for autumn and winter evenings, and for receiving guests. The Khanjar Bakhoor by Oman Luxury will appeal to those who like interiors that smell of wood.
