Parfumeur | Muatasim Al Hinai & Philippe Paparella-Paris
Khanjar by Oman Luxury is a spicy woody aromatic eau de parfum, unisex, created by Muatasim Al Hinai and Philippe Paparella-Paris. With twenty-six ingredients, it is by far the house's longest formula.
An Omani house that calls upon master perfumers
Oman Luxury is an independent house founded in 2012 by Muatasim, Muadh and Ahmed, then relaunched in October 2020 with a new identity. Its approach is twofold: draw from Omani heritage — the incense route, spices, agarwood — and entrust the formulas to leading French perfumers, among whom Dominique Ropion, Marie Salamagne, Pierre Negrin, Maurice Roucel or Emilie Coppermann. One of the three founders, Muatasim Al Hinai, composes two of the collection's fragrances himself. The bottles incorporate motifs from Omani architecture and textiles.
An opening of lavender, saffron, davana and mugwort
Seven ingredients right at the start. Lavender and mugwort provide the aromatic, green and camphoraceous register; coriander its pepper. Saffron brings its leathery facet and davana — an Indian mugwort — a jammy fruitiness that changes depending on the skin. Bergamot and mandarin brighten the whole.
A heart of rose, iris root, immortelle and nutmeg
Rose holds the center, surrounded by iris root and its cold powderiness, cedarwood and vetiver for the dry structure. Immortelle brings its sweet curry and hay, nutmeg and geranium complete. Seven ingredients again, where a heart usually has three.
A base of oud, leather, cypriol and ambergris
Twelve ingredients in the base alone. Oud and leather dominate — the house speaks of a pure natural oud —, cypriol essential oil brings its smoky earth, ambergris its mineral and salty note. Labdanum and tonka bean establish the balmy warmth, while sandalwood, amyris, styrax, patchouli, musk and vanilla thicken the whole.
The house's signature
The khanjar is the curved Omani dagger, worn at the waist during ceremonies and represented on the national emblem; the house presents it as the historical symbol of the country. The fragrance takes the opposite approach to its sobriety: instead of a tight formula, it stacks twenty-six ingredients, including twelve in the base alone. It is also one of the two fragrances that Muatasim Al Hinai, co-founder of the house, composes himself, here with Philippe Paparella-Paris.
For whom, for what occasions?
For those who love dense compositions, which unfold for a long time and change over the hours. It is an autumn and winter fragrance, rather for the evening, with a very long-lasting presence and a wide sillage. Khanjar Oman Luxury will suit those who want a fragrance to explore rather than identify.
