Parfumeur | Giuseppe Imprezzabile
L'Oblio by Meo Fusciuni is a woody, powdery, spicy unisex fragrance created by Giuseppe Imprezzabile. The house presents it as an iris fragrance, born from a long journey up the Mekong.
An ethnobotanist turned perfumer
Before composing fragrances, Giuseppe Imprezzabile spent years cataloging the medicinal properties of plants and ran an herbalist shop in his hometown in Sicily. He prefers the old title of aromatario, one who possesses the knowledge of plants. “Meo” is the diminutive of his father's first name, Bartolomeo; “Fusciuni” is his grandfather's nickname, which means to flow in Sicilian. For him, a fragrance does not begin in the laboratory but with a poem, a journey, or a revelation.
An opening of immortelle, incense, and orange
The opening is clear and a little harsh. Immortelle brings its scent of warm hay and curry; incense its dry resin; orange a frank brightness. It is a dry and luminous opening, before the fragrance slows down.
A heart of mate-tobacco and iris
The fragrance does indeed slow down. Mate-tobacco establishes a vegetal and smoky scent, of steeped leaf rather than cigarette. Then iris arrives and takes up all the space: powdery, root-like, a little cold, almost mineral. It is the heart of the fragrance and its subject.
A base of sandalwood, palo santo, and oakwood
The house describes it thus: when the long journey comes to an end, the sweet woody notes of sandalwood and palo santo—that South American wood whose smoke is sweet and resinous—bring us back to the foundation of balance. Oakwood makes them drier, musk and the powdery notes make them softer. The end is a dust.
The house's gesture
L'Oblio was born from a specific journey, which the perfumer tells in the first person: Cambodia, a long journey up the Mekong, in search of oblivion as salvation. His spiritual and literary guide was the Italian writer Tiziano Terzani. It is a fragrance built on a paradox: it does not tell a memory, it tells the erasure of a memory—“oblivion is a spiral of tranquility.” It belongs to the Memorie di Viaggio collection.
For whom, for what occasions?
For those seeking an iris that is neither cosmetic nor icy, but warm and smoky. It is a mid-season fragrance, wearable by day, discreet and close to the skin. Meo Fusciuni's L'Oblio will appeal to those who love calm, contemplative fragrances that do not seek to be noticed.
