A perfumer from the world of art history

Francesca Bianchi is a self-taught Italian perfumer. Graduated in art history in Florence, she worked in art book publishing before founding her house in Amsterdam in 2016, after reading a book on natural perfumery. She composes each formula by hand in her laboratory — a process that can take from six months to four years, sometimes longer — before entrusting production to a small Italian artisanal company. The house operates without investors or a marketing plan. Her perfumes are nicknamed “Liquid Emotions”. Libertine Neroli belongs to the series she dedicates to great raw materials, alongside Byzantine Amber and Unspoken Musk.

An opening of neroli and petitgrain

Bergamot, neroli, and petitgrain are three extracts from the same tree, the bigarade: the fruit, the flower, and the leaf. Neroli unfolds its sunny whiteness, petitgrain its bitter greenness. The opening is frank and luminous.

A heart of geranium and iris

Geranium brings its rosy and slightly metallic facet, iris its cold powder. Only two materials, which serve as a hinge between the light of the top and the shadow of the base.

An animal and chypre base

The animal accord and leather take over without transition. Labdanum and benzoin bring the resins, oakmoss the forest dampness. The contrast with the opening is the very subject of the perfume.

Neroli set upon an animal accord. Neroli is the material of eau de colognes and childhood perfumes: clean, reassuring, almost naive. Placing it above an animal and leathery base completely changes the reading — the flower is not softened, it is returned to its raw side.
