A house that names its perfumes after their ingredients

Bohoboco is a Polish house based in Warsaw. It was born in 2009 as a fashion brand, founded by designers Michał Gilbert Lach and Kamil Owczarek. A first perfume was released in 2012, before the collection was launched in 2016 — a project in which Lach, having worked in hairdressing, then makeup and later fashion design, says he found his true calling. The house's signature lies in its naming convention: each perfume simply bears the name of two or three of its ingredients, without a story or character. Sea Salt Caramel, Vanilla Black Pepper, Wild Carrot Oud — and even provocative names like Magic Mushrooms or Polish Potatoes. The first compositions were created in Grasse, and the house has been awarded by the Fragrance Foundation UK, Vogue Beauty and Elle Style. Everything is available as a unisex 50 ml eau de parfum.

An opening of cypress, grapefruit and cardamom

The cypress immediately sets a coniferous and damp forest tone, while the grapefruit adds a bitter brightness and the cardamom a spicy warmth. A green, vibrant and woody opening.

A heart of mushroom, blackcurrant and herbs

The mushroom arrives, earthy and damp, with the blackcurrant adding acidity. Around them is an entire herbarium: thyme, lavender, clove, davana, immortelle, ylang-ylang and cannabis. This is the densest heart in the entire catalogue.

A base of liqueur notes, patchouli, vetiver and moss

The liqueur notes bring an alcoholic and dark quality, while the patchouli and vetiver add earthiness, and the moss evokes the forest floor. The scent lasts seven to nine hours.

The house's approach

Ten ingredients out of seventeen placed in the heart. The construction is as radical as the name: the house has placed the essence of the perfume in the middle, where a classic formula distributes its ingredients across three layers. The result is a perfume that does not unfold but settles, like a state of being rather than a story. And it features two ingredients that fine perfumery almost never touches: the earthy and damp mushroom, and cannabis. This is the most complex formula in the entire collection.
