Parfumeur | Hamid Merati-Kashani
Mariya by Oman Luxury is a woody gourmand floral eau de parfum, unisex, created by Hamid Merati-Kashani. Its heart features two roses from different terroirs and a touch of bourbon.
An Omani house that calls upon master perfumers
Oman Luxury is an independent house founded in 2012 by Muatasim, Muadh and Ahmed, then relaunched in October 2020 with a new identity. Its approach is twofold: draw from Omani heritage — the incense route, spices, agarwood — and entrust the formulas to leading French perfumers, among whom Dominique Ropion, Marie Salamagne, Pierre Negrin, Maurice Roucel or Emilie Coppermann. One of the three founders, Muatasim Al Hinai, composes two of the collection's fragrances himself. The bottles incorporate motifs from Omani architecture and textiles.
An opening of coriander, orange blossom and citrus
The coriander opens on a green, peppery and slightly soapy note, very little sweet. The orange blossom brings its honeyed whiteness, the mandarin and the bergamot the brightness of zest. It is a classic entry in appearance, but the spice takes precedence over the citrus.
A heart of Taif rose, Bulgarian rose, geranium and bourbon
Two roses side by side, distinguished by their terroir. The Bulgarian rose is round and honeyed; the Taif rose, harvested in Saudi Arabia at more than a thousand meters, is more spicy and more peppery. The geranium adds its green and rosy facet. And the bourbon — the alcohol, which the house expressly names — slips into the middle of the flowers a vanilla and woody warmth that one does not expect.
A base of Santos coffee, caramel, patchouli and vanilla
The Santos coffee — the Brazilian coffee named after the port through which it is exported — brings its roasted bitterness; the patchouli its damp and camphorous earth. The caramel and the vanilla give the gourmandism announced by the family, but it arrives late and remains held by the two bitter materials that accompany it.
The house's gesture
Two roses on the same level, two named terroirs: Bulgaria and Taif. This is not decorative precision — two roses from different origins do not smell the same, and placing them together amounts to creating a flower that does not exist. The house adds a bourbon note to it, then builds its base on coffee and caramel, which is rarely associated with rose: the alcohol and the roasted pull the bouquet towards a counter register rather than a garden.
For whom, for what occasions?
For those who love roses and are looking for a gourmand version without it becoming a dessert. It is an autumn and winter fragrance, wearable day or night, with good longevity and an enveloping sillage. Mariya Oman Luxury will appeal to those who want a rose with coffee in it.
