Parfumeur | Pissara Umavijani
Moonlight in Chiangmai by Dusita is a niche woody, citrusy and spicy eau de parfum, unisex, created by Pissara Umavijani. Chiang Mai is the former capital of the Lanna Kingdom, in northern Thailand.
A house born from poetry
Parfums Dusita is an award-winning independent Parisian haute parfumerie, founded in 2016 by Pissara “Ploi” Umavijani, a self-taught perfumer born in Bangkok and who arrived in Paris in 2011. Each fragrance is an olfactory tribute to the poetry of her father, Montri Umavijani (1941-2006), a renowned Thai poet. Dusita is the name of the celestial paradise spoken of in his verses, and whose quest runs through the entire collection. Pissara draws an illustration for each creation herself, capturing its spirit as much as that of the poem. The fragrances are composed near Grasse from largely natural ingredients, and are 100% vegan and cruelty-free. 50 ml bottle.
An opening of yuzu, white grapefruit and nutmeg
Yuzu opens bright and floral — it is the Japanese citrus, more complex than a lemon. White grapefruit brings its bitterness and nutmeg a woody warmth.
A heart of jasmine, benzoin and myrrh
Jasmine brings a discreet whiteness, then benzoin and myrrh establish two resins — one sweet and vanilla-like, the other bitter and smoky.
A base of vetiver, oakwood and Thai teak
Vetiver anchors in the root, oakwood brings its dryness and Thai teak a slightly leathery density that belongs only to it.
The house's signature
Thai teak, a material that perfumery rarely uses. Teak is the wood of the traditional houses of northern Thailand: dense, dry, slightly leathery. It is the privilege of a perfumer born there — she knows materials and scents that Western perfumery has no reason to seek. And the Japanese yuzu at the top reminds us that the Asia she tells of does not stop at one country: two Middle Eastern resins in the heart, a Japanese citrus at the start, a Thai wood at the base.
For whom, for what occasions?
Woody, citrusy and spicy, this eau de parfum is for those seeking an exotic woody fragrance. It can be worn all year round, from day to night, by both women and men.
With Moonlight in Chiangmai Dusita, Pissara Umavijani holds three regions of Asia in a single bottle.
