Nuance Parfums is a French niche perfume house whose creative principle can be summed up in one observation: a raw material never has a single olfactory color. An opening of bergamot, elemi, freesia and night-blooming jasmine

Bergamot opens with a clean, almost soapy sensation, very close to the skin. Elemi, a resin from the Philippines, adds a lemony and peppery facet that lasts longer than a citrus alone, and freesia provides the first floral, watery and light touch, without an ambient fragrance. Night-blooming jasmine comes to disturb this clarity: a flower that only releases its fragrance at nightfall, more captivating and sweeter than a classic jasmine, and which announces from the opening the nocturnal direction of the composition — the one that gives it its name, al layl, the night.

A heart of frangipani, fig and cashmere wood

The flowers remain in the background. The frangipani accord brings a creamy and milky whiteness, cananga, the wild cousin of ylang-ylang, a rounder, greener and waxier facet. Fig introduces its facet of fig milk and fresh bark, halfway between the fruit and the plant. Cashmere wood gives the whole its texture: a soft, smooth woodiness that holds the flowers without projecting them.

A base of musks, incense and vanilla milk

Musks prolong the presence without amplifying it — it is the signature of the perfume, the one that remains in contact with the skin when everything else has settled. Incense slows down the pace and makes the whole almost motionless. The labdanum absolute brings the amber warmth, and the vanilla milk a milky sweetness, very little sweet, which closes the composition on a sensation of warm fabric.

Musk Al Layl is built in reverse to usual evening perfumes: instead of opening strongly then fading, it starts clean and close to the body, then thickens towards a soft material that no longer seeks to be noticed.
