Parfumeur | Dominique Ropion
Oud Aquilaria by Oman Luxury is a woody, floral, fruity eau de parfum, unisex, created by Dominique Ropion. Its title does not name the material but the tree it comes from.
An Omani house that calls upon the greatest noses
Oman Luxury is an independent house founded in 2012 by Muatasim, Muadh and Ahmed, then relaunched in October 2020 with a new identity. Its approach is twofold: to draw from Omani heritage — the incense route, spices, agarwood — and to entrust the formulas to leading French perfumers, among whom Dominique Ropion, Marie Salamagne, Pierre Negrin, Maurice Roucel or Emilie Coppermann. One of the three founders, Muatasim Al Hinai, composes two of the perfumes in the collection himself. The bottles incorporate motifs from Omani architecture and textiles.
An opening of pink pepper, rosemary and apple
Pink pepper provides its sparkling resinousness, rosemary a green and camphorous aromatic note that one does not expect in an oud, and apple a crisp and tart fruitiness. The opening is clear and dry, without citrus or sweetness — the house speaks of a start of delicate spice and herbs.
A heart of Damask rose, Bulgarian rose and clove
Two roses distinguished by their terroir: the Damask rose, spicy and deep, and the Bulgarian rose, rounder and honeyed. Sage brings its herbal bitterness and clove a peppery warmth that links to the wood in the base.
A base of oud, patchouli, amber and mastic
Four materials, short and dense. Oud brings its lively woody depth, patchouli its earthiness, amber its resinous warmth and mastic its balmy and slightly leathery side. The sillage lasts a long time without ever becoming heavy.
The house's gesture
Aquilaria is the name of the botanical genus to which oud trees belong. The wood only produces its resin when it is attacked by a fungus: the tree then secretes a dark substance to defend itself, and it is this, and not the healthy wood, that gives oud. Naming the perfume after the tree rather than the material is to recall this origin — and the formula does the same by placing an apple and rosemary before the wood, like the forest before the wound. The house, for its part, summarizes the perfume in two words: an oud rose, and the essence of Omani mystery.
For whom, for what occasions?
For those who love classic oud roses and are looking for a more airy version, opened by green and fruit. It is an autumn and winter perfume, wearable day or night, with a long-lasting presence and a measured sillage. Oud Aquilaria Oman Luxury will suit those who want an oud without heaviness.
