Parfumeur | Arturetto Landi
Oud Karkade by Jupilò is a woody, fruity and powdery unisex extrait de parfum. Nine ingredients in the top notes, and Dahn Al Oud in the base.
A father, suitcases full of bottles
Jupilò is an Italian house founded by Lorenzo Zaccheo — lawyer, professional sommelier and former boxer. His passion for perfumes comes from his father, a lover of beauty and Paris, who returned from trips with suitcases full of bottles: Annick Goutal, Diptyque, L'Artisan Parfumeur, Caron. “And every time, it was Christmas.” The child became a collector, then a student of olfactory art, and then creative director. The house defines itself as a cross between Rome and Paris, with methods borrowed from oenology that his profession as a sommelier explains. Four perfumers sign the catalogue: Vanina Muraccioli, Arturetto Landi, Christian Carbonnel and Luca Maffei.
An opening of green tea, blood orange and fruit
The green tea opens with a dry and tannic bitterness, the blood orange brings the red citrus. The star anise and cinnamon spice it up immediately, while the plum, peach, apple and blackcurrant establish the fruit. A marine note completes this opening of nine ingredients.
A heart of jasmine sambac and iris
The jasmine sambac — the fullest and most indolic variety — holds the heart with magnolia and lily of the valley. The iris brings the cold powder that gives the perfume its third family.
A base of Dahn Al Oud and sandalwood
The Dahn Al Oud — agarwood oil, the most concentrated and precious form of the material — closes the composition with sandalwood, leather and ambergris. The vanilla, sugar and musk soften the whole.
The house's approach
It's Dahn Al Oud, not an oud accord. The distinction matters: Dahn Al Oud is the distilled oil of agarwood, the most expensive form of the material, whereas most perfumes settle for a reconstruction. The name also refers to karkade, the hibiscus infusion that is drunk from Cairo to Khartoum — a red color and a fruity bitterness that illuminate the entire opening of the perfume, between tea and red fruits.
For whom, for what occasions?
Woody, fruity and powdery, this extract is for those who love fruity ouds and seek a noble material without the austerity of Gulf ouds. From autumn to winter, in the evening. It is the most complex in the top notes in the catalogue.
With Oud Karkade Jupilò, a distilled oil replaces the usual reconstruction.
