Oud Laqué by Les Bains Guerbois is a woody, spicy and floral unisex eau de parfum, created by Mathieu Nardin. A raspberry in the top note, which lacquers the wood.

A single address, one hundred and forty years of history

It all started at 7 rue du Bourg-l'Abbé, in Paris. In 1885, Auguste Guerbois opened the capital's most luxurious private bath, frequented by Manet, Monet, Renoir, Zola and Proust. In 1978, the venue became Les Bains Douches, the Parisian equivalent of Studio 54. In 2015, Jean-Pierre Marois, heir to the venue, transformed it into a five-star hotel, then resurrected the perfume house in 2016. The catalogue follows two lines: "A date, a story" (2018), where each perfume corresponds to a year of the venue, and "Forms & Materials" (2022), an exploration of the building itself. Oud Laqué is the first opus of this second collection.

An opening of raspberry, cardamom and saffron

Raspberry opens the composition: a tart and candied red fruit, it gives an unexpected brilliance at the start. Cardamom brings its camphor freshness and saffron its leathery and metallic facet.

A heart of rose and Bourbon geranium

Rose establishes the full flower, Bourbon geranium — that of La Réunion, greener and more peppery — extends it. Guaiac wood already introduces the dry smoke of the base.

A base of oud, Siamese benzoin and patchouli

Oud finally arrives, dense and resinous. Siamese benzoin brings its balsamic vanilla, patchouli the damp earth. The base is warm, very tenacious, and much sweeter than oud alone would be.

The house's signature

The raspberry in the top note lacquers the wood. It is the right term: the red fruit places a tart brilliance on the oud, like lacquer on a piece of furniture, and the perfume keeps this shine throughout. Without it, the composition would be just another classic oud-rose; with it, the opening is immediately recognizable. The name therefore describes a finish, a material — it is exactly the principle of the collection to which it belongs.
