Parfumeur | Dmitry Bortnikov
Oud Loukoum by Bortnikoff is a niche perfume extract that is woody, gourmand, and amber, unisex, designed by Dmitry Bortnikov. Its structure is one of the house's most minimalist.
A Thai house where the founder is also the perfumer
Bortnikoff is based in Thailand, in the very heart of the agarwood-producing regions. It was founded by Dmitry Bortnikov, a Russian perfumer who is both the owner and the nose of his brand, and who works with wild Thai oud by sourcing his materials at the source. The catalog is divided into four lines: Entry Level, Main Collection, Colognes, and Attars. 50 ml bottle.
An opening of tobacco and dried fruits
Tobacco opens the perfume, dry and honeyed, accompanied by candied dried fruits that are slightly boozy. Only two materials, and an immediately dense opening.
A heart of ylang-ylang
The heart contains only one material: ylang-ylang, a yellow flower with creamy, sunny, and slightly banana-like facets. It serves as a breather between the tobacco and the wood.
A base of two ouds, wood, and Peru balsam
Organic Trat oud and wild Indian oud distilled by the house form the framework. Cedar and guaiac wood bring their smoky dryness, and Peru balsam a vanilla and cinnamon resin. The trail is long and very tenacious.
The house's approach
Loukoum is evoked by the texture, not by the recipe. Loukoum is sugar, rose water, and dried fruits. There is neither sugar nor rose here — only the dried fruits, and above all, a sensation: the dense, sticky, and slightly powdery side produced by the meeting of tobacco, creamy ylang-ylang, and balms. The name describes a consistency, not a flavor. The structure follows the same minimalist logic: two materials at the top, one in the heart, five at the base. And one of the two ouds is distilled by the house itself — a detail it provides here and not everywhere.
For whom, for what occasions?
Woody, gourmand, and amber, this extract is for those who love fruity tobaccos and unadorned ouds. It gives its best from autumn to winter, in the evening, and is equally suitable for women and men.
With Oud Loukoum Bortnikoff, Dmitry Bortnikov bottles the texture of a confection rather than its taste.
